The resort wasn't making any money. Their terrain is all for upper level skiers, most of the skiers in CO aren't 'extreme' skiers. They do run snowcat powder stuff up there now, and it's still open for backcountry. You just have to hitch rides back to the top of the pass and walk a little more than you used to.

berthoud was amazing it was the greatest mountain ever the park when it was lift opperated was so sweet and clever. now this year it was insane thouhg it had 3 gigantic hits in the bc and it was always a nice pow landing it was a great mountain and next year there is talk of the opp crew putting in rails and trying to buil a natural jib park it was a great mountain and i recomend it to all the hike is little and you get a lot for it!

we hiked it a couple weeks ago to our kicker, low and behold there where snowboarders and we just had this all out super session... it was gnarly

colorado has like the most skiers so im betting that the percentages of 'extreme' skiers in most states is roughly the same, so that means we have more 'extremists'.

No I'm not stupid, I just know that that's what the manager told me when they were closing. I also know that Colorado caters to blue groomer tourists. And since that is the majority of the skiing population, Berthoud couldn't provide when all of the other resorts here have shit-tons of blue groomers, so they didn't have enough business to stay open.
And really, there aren't that many really good skiers in the Summit County/Front Range part of Colorado.
