Being the only ski rat in your town

Its hard to keep having a passion for skiing in a little town in Rhode Island where my best bud that went to college this year will not be here my senior year cause he's going out to colorado for school . I might be joining him next year but thats still another year I have no one to talk about ski shit with around except my dad be gets annoyed about it cause he's not that big into it. but i think the only thing that keeps me going is my own passion for skiing so i think it'll be alright thanks to NS..

kinda wish i lived up there to be closer to the mountains. I live in Philadelphia but I tend to get up north a few times a year

It's like this in northeast ohio too, people skiing and snowboarding are a waste of money here. At least we have skiing here I suppose

I just go alone and cry at the base of the 100ft waiting for a snowboarder to take my head off

Dood... I feel with you. I live in a town with 2000 people and I am pretty much the only one who skiis every weekend. You're not alone buddy ;)

I feel for you man. I live in Vermont surrounded by mountains but none of my ski friends ski anymore. So I am at work 40 hours a week saving for skis and thinking about skiing all day and I have no one to get hyped with except my brother but even he gets bored of it sometimes. Plus he leaves for college in the fall and like you I am then stuck getting hyped by myself.

Yeah its tough theres alot of snowboarders around here but theyre just not the same to get hyped up about skiing you know

Feels. I got new skis yesterday and it is the coolest thing ever but no one wants to hear about it. My wife actually skis a ton so I have someone to ski with but she doesn't want to talk about it. After checking my skis out and deciding they are to long for her to bogart she is like go see if your friends online care.

Definitely will man. tbh I don't normally hit Bear because it's pretty small and limited. Do you hit other PA mountains?

I had a season pass last year not sure if I'm doing it again but I'll probably still be goin up on weekdays after class

Rhode Island really isn't that far from good skiing up in Vermont. I get it perhaps your town is more ocean oriented or something else...but you really aren't that far if you have a car. Try to look around online at some meetup groups, etc and meet people that way. You need to put yourself out there.

i live in PA, and theres nobody in my town that skis park other than me, all you gotta do is meet kids at your mountain, ive made some great friends from all over different parts of the state but were always at big boulder to ski so doesnt really matter how far you live from them

You know, there's something really cool and nostalgic about this.

When this Newschool shit first came around, nobody did it. You were always the outcast in your park. Kids at school were all into snowboarding, and everyone just thought that because you skied you were a racer.

The best part though was when you were out soul skiing in the park... cruising around alone with some good tunes and avoiding the snowballs from snowbaorders.... and then suddenly you see another dude riding around on twins.

Instantly - no matter what - you were friends.

There wasn't a judgement of if they were cool enough, no political leaning or difference in social status mattered. Nothing mattered. You were Newschool skiers and you were now best homies.

I built a lot of fantastic relationships in those days. Some have lasted, some have faded away. However, it was a pretty awesome experience, and you just might be the perfect candidate.

Thats what I'm saying man i just hope too make a lot of good friends and ski my ass off when i get out of colorado just go have some fucking fun and not care or judge

I feel u dude. I go to school with 2400 kids and I'm the only park rat. I'm still at Stratton every weekend tho

i feel you dude.. i live in dc and am a softmore in hs. ive only come across a mere 10 skiers in a school of 3k... most kids are swimming elitists... ive had struggles finding friends on the hill in pa most ppl are either jerrys or d-bags... i still remember i went to a ski club meeting in middle school and i was out the door within 5 mins when they said "the park and blacks are off limits" and that theirs a buddy system... most kids where just prolly learning to ski.

I ski with a couple snowboarders because there's no other skiers in my school that do anything in the park besides straight air and side hit the kickers for all the rails. I'm convincing a couple of my friends to start riding park tho so maybe I'll have skiers to ride with soon lol.

It actually is kind of a bitch, you're looking at a 3 hour drive at least. Gotta cut all the way across MA

Go to school in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Saw the sort of big scene around App Mountain and Snowflex and thought it would be the perfect combo of skiing and school. Turns out 2.5 hours is too far to travel mid week and it's hard to build strong relationships with the locals being a weekend warrior. I'm really the only park skier at my school now, but it pretty tight because it really feels like my thing here and I can introduce and get all my friends hype on the culture. Doesn't make my love for skiing fade.... Still can't wait to graduate and move out west doe
