Beginning teleskiing (setup)

really wasn't sure how to title this but.....

i'm looking to try tele skiing this coming winter. i have skied moguls, freeride, park, and i am eager to learn and master teleskiing now. i am completely new to it, never tried it before.

is it plausible for me to pick it up and just give 'er a go and learn by doing?

what would a good setup look like/cost me? i'm thinking an alpine ski? i know next to nothing about tele bindings, boots, or the sort of ski i'd need. i'm not sure if having a twintip is necessary at all, but i might be getting into some pow on them if i get good enough. i'm about 5'11" 170 lbs and an aggressive skier.

i'm in colorado so i'd be mostly on resort stuff, abasin, keystone, vail, etc.

anything helps unless it doesn't. thanks!!

I learned in the early season a bunch of years back, because all that was open was the WROD.

It was a shitty pair of K2 Merlin Vs with G3 Targas and Scarpa boots. It was kinda fun to learn, but once it started to snow, I stopped.

Boots and bindings are the most important thing. Tele boots feel kinda funky. As for skis, I would look for a pair of Kung Fujas or something like that. Soft, not too wide, and rockered tips/tails. Shorter poles than normal too.

Do lots of deep lunges. That's the kind of movement involved. You're going to fall over a lot.

I stopped because tele makes my knees hurt, but it's nice to be able to bust out a tele turn on X-country skis on a downhill section.

word, i have heard the fujas thrown around a bit for a telemark ski. what about sizes? should i go shorter to make it easier? should i just get off my ass and go to a shop and ask them these questions? will anyone else in this forum who teleskis see this thread? the world may never know.
