Beginner tips?

bro, just go for spins first year and flips if you want (try powder first and make sure to do them on tramp aswell) for rails try and be able to do basic boxes and rails and hop on stuff maybe little rail tricks on pvcs

All good man, just make sure you rocking 180+ and center those bad girls!! This will make all the difference.

I'm only 6'3 but 181 skis are just slightly smaller than me and nobody really makes longer ones. Volkl and some other companies make 189 but, at least in Volkl's case, they measure out the same as 181 from other companies. Some true 189's would be perfect.

I'm 5' 10'', and thanks for everyone's advice so far I need all I can get I'm sure I'll be eating tons of shit in the next few months.

baggy clothes first of all. too tall is the perfect size. and as far as style goes, it takes a while to create your style. i'd say pick a pros style you really like and start using that as a base to make your own style.

learn all of your tricks to the left and right. itll make things easier when you get better if your just as good sliding a rail both ways.

DONT CUT PEOPLE OFF

call your drop be respectful of other people you should be all good.

dont go on big stuff to start with work your way up

Practice makes perfect everyone falls just don't try something stupid like hit the biggest kicker in da park on your first day park skiing.

good decision taking up free skiing, best desigion of you life, when you are starting out just take your time and only do what feels comfortable and dont worry about what you wear, just dont go to extreme (4xl etc). start of just becoming completely comfortable on jumps and rails, learn basic trick like 180's 3's and possibly backflips and frontflips if you feel comfortable but most importantly just enjoy it and have fun, that is the most important part of the whole sport. if you need help just ask on here most people are friendly and helpful

'm not sure if any1 said this yet, but goggles r lame. u gotta be rockin the nice sporty sunglasses like those pro cyclists wear. obvs u know to tuck ur snowpants inside ur boots or for maximum steeze nice new levi jeans. the pizza wedge is ur friend. and always remember to have poles that are 1 size large, the bigger the steezier except when it comes to clothes, the tighter the better

another tip: if you think that this will kill you doing basic tricks then you may not be comfortable or ready, also if you think that you wont land the trick your going to do the 9/10 times you wont.

So much bullshit in this thread. Skiing is not about your clothes, the size of your poles, or the size of your skis. With that out of the way...before you head straight to the park, get your fundamentals DOWN. Learn how to carve well forward and switch and make sure you have full control over your skis and your body before you start hucking yourself off jumps or at hard metal objects. Start out slow, you're not trying to win the X Games. Straight air small jumps until you feel comfortable in the air, then move up to bigger jumps, then start trying grabs, spins, etc. Try to learn stuff both ways early on. Don't worry about any fancy rail tricks for the time being. Find a nice flat box to get the hang of sliding sideways, then move to rails and other obstacles. Make sure you pop with both feet and land square on the rail instead of doing that awkward one foot hop-step on the rail thing, that's a bad habit to start. Once you're confident sliding rails I'd try front 2s out. Easiest rail trick to do by far. Umm I didn't really read most of the thread but...if you're not skiing 100% in the park, don't center mount your skis so you can actually use them outside the park. Not sure what else was covered. Hope this helps a little...

Pretty much my first year in the park too. Kind of nervous to hit rails for the first time but i'm trying to be confident/optimistic about it.

it wont go well the first couple of times. wear an extra sweatshirt or two for padding. just think of it like hazing. except almost everytime you try something new, you get hazed.

never thought of that analogy but i think it works for the situation haha. definitley going to wear that extra hoodie too. never thoought about doing that

Theres no way to avoid it, it's only your first season you're not gonna be good right from the start. Just go out everyday and have fun and try one hard thing every time you're out skiing. But here are some tips-Don't try to afterbang try to learn to grab with your spins, keep arm flailing to a minimal

- Start small, work your way up- Hit little shit over and over until your comfortable with them

- ASK QUESTIONS. Majority of the time a skier is always willing to help another skier, unless their a fucking faggot

- Dont be afraid to progress, but dont push yourself too hard too fast. Thats how injurys start

- BE SMART - always scope out the jumps first, ask/watch others' speed, call your drop

- Ski with other people. I personally ski by myself just cuz i blast music and am cool with only being able to do a 540 safety at the most, but skiing with others helps progression a lot

- Speed is your friend

- Wax your skis

- No xxxl, or medium

- Wear a helmet
