It is definitely going to be an upgrade for yourself. I was stuck in the same situation you were a couple months ago. I upgraded to a t2i and it was an amazing change. I love having Magic Lantern for it as well and having full control over my video.
And you said you mainly film skiing and that you want good lenses... If I were you I would go with a Tokina 11-16 f2.8 its one of the sharpest and best wide angles on the market. The Rokinon 8mm is a good lense as well but it is not very sharp and isn't too good in low light considering its a f3.5. Hopefully this helps, message me for anything else you want too know.
