Beer Project

I am working on a marketing plan for a beer I brewed for class, and I need to conduct some primary research about beer drinkers, so I am going to you guys for help.

The beer I brewed was an IPA, so it is a hoppier (more bitter) beer than your regular everyday ale. I saw my potentail target market as being male 22-27 years old, because I felt that around this age guys are looking to enjoy something a little more complex than natty light, and they probably won't have as much as a problem putting down $7-9 for a six pack of "better beer."

So what I want to know is: gender, current age, how old you were when you started drinking beer that was something besides a budweiser type lager and why, and how often you drink IPA's.

Ladies opinions are welcome too! I just haven't considered them in my target market because thus far not too many girls have liked my beer, saying it's too bitter and they wouldn't drink it on a regular basis.

I've had 1 budweiser in my life, and that shit is awful. I can't stand pabst or natty ice, and I can tolerate miller high life. I love microbrews, IPA's are awesome. I didn't really drink until after I was 21 because I just never liked the taste of beer. My brother, who is a bit of a beer snob, introduced my to Long Trail, Red Hook, Shipyard, etc and I was hooked. Higher quality beer is just so much better and so much more fun to drink. It tastes awesome, and because of the flavor, it's just way more enjoyable than drinking watered down shit.

male, 26, 20ish i guess i appreciated a finer beer from time to time, IPAs are my go to beer when i'm feeling fancy

Been a premium beer drinker since I got out of highschool.... still, even as a senior I would buy microbrews over budget beer. This, in retrospect, was probably out of a self-perceived classiness that I wanted to share with the world, aka too good for the hick beer, rather than taste preference. After all I was buying Long Trail Blackbeary Wheat, which might as well be a blackberry Bacardi Breezer.... uck.

oh, and i drink IPAs as my go to beer tasting beer, so about 2-3 times a week... Alexander Keiths FTW

I also love Ipswich ale. New England breweries have it on lockdown. There are so many great microbrewers around me. I especially love the independent ones that are restaurants, like the Moat in North Conway NH, and Zero Gravity in Burlington VT. Magic Hat and Long trail are great, Shipyard is awesome, Red Hook Long Hammer IPA is delish. Anchor Brewery out of San Fran is great as well.

mmm Red Hook. i never witnessed my dad drinking shitty beers when i was a kid so i really have never gone that way. 'cept for maybe a few rainiers and buschs. I'm 19 right now if that helps your survey

Have you ever tried any Sierra Nevada? Their pale ale is delicious and usually their seasonal beers are usually pretty good too

naw, I haven't yet, but I have been meaning to. I have several friends who love it. On that note, have any of you tried Sam Adams Noble Pils? My bro raves about it, but I have yet to try it. I just got into Tremont Ale, which I think is a subsidiary of Shipyard. Their Patriot Ale is pretty good. Also just tried Corona...shit is awful, mexican piss. I'm not a big fan of Long Trail's Blackbearry wheat, but my gf likes it. I like double bag and their regular ale. Hibernator is good too.

I usually like sam adams and tried the nobel pils a few weeks ago, its ok buta bit pricy for what you get. I thought just tasted like an unusally hoppy pilsner. Being from southern california corona is everywhere, lots of mexicans drink it. I used to like it back in the high school days when i didn't know better. if your gf likes wheat beers try and find her "orchard white" by the bruery, it is a belgian whit beer that has a hint of lavender and is really delicious. you can find it at bevmo (don't know if they have those where you are or not), and whole food stores. Also she might lke lambic if she hasn't already had one, their basically a fruit beer that taste nothing like beer.

Never really drank cheap beers come to think of it. My uncle is into the good stuff and ive been drinking IPA since i was 10 probably. He has always had a good IPA stocked up in the beer fridge. I drink whenever im at his house which is maybe once or twice a month. Tmrw i have a feeling will be a good night since its my 16th bday party woot woot!

nice, I'll def look into that. Smuttynose puts out a decent blueberry wheat bear as well. I'm not a huge fan of wheat bear though. Her fam LOVES budweiser, it's so funny, but they always buy a 30 pack of longtrail when I'm at home, which is sweet. I've been getting into dark ales lately. I love scottish style ales, and English Session ales. Newcastle has really grown on me, brown ale is so good.

correction, it's not smuttynose, it's sea dog, which is owned by Shipyard.

Male 23 Fucking KEYSTONE LIGHT!! Schmidt, Hamms, Coors. Fuck spending a lot on beer unless your looking to just have one or two but i'm not really down like that. either i'm drinking a case or i'm not drinking.

I always found the Granville Island ish to have this weird sweetness to it... like its sickeningly pleasant, kinda like the rest of Vancouver.

Male, 21, started drinking good beer around 12, because my parents are both czech. I have been homebrewing for 2 years now, mostly making stouts and wheat beers. I rarely drink IPAs. once or twice a week tops.

male, 21 years old, i prefer better beers when i can afford them which is very rarely. usually i have to settle for pbr or something close. my favorite is switchback when i go out back in burlington vt.

21.

Started drinking at like 10, because my dad's cool like that and taught me to be responsable early.

We never drank shitty beer (sometimes shitty wine, since its only like 2$ here for a bottle) so there has never been anything classified as 'lite' in my fridge my whole life. So, I guess that's why?

I grew up drinking mostly local brews.. Pyramid, Sierra Nevada, Black Diamond, Diablo, Widmer's, Mendicino, Snowshoe, and others - all of which make a Pale Ale or orther type of IPA.

Right now, as we speak, I am sucking down a Red Chair IPA from Deschutes Brewery in Bend, OR. It's got a lovely, mellow cascade hop flavour to it, not quite as harsh as say, a Sierra Nevada or a Red Hook... and i could honestly say, it's about as easy to suck down for an IPA as a lager might be. It's insanely versitile on the pallate, and leaves a fantastic aftertaste.

I give 4.5 out of 5 stars.
