Been to Big Snow NJ?

Curious if anyone has been to Big Snow in New Jersey. I want to keep getting some park laps in this off season but getting out there is a hassle (no car) so thought I’d check NS first for any reviews.

I went in October. Super fun place, not sure what their prices are now but it’s definitely worth it to buy the 6 pack pass. It’s 135 bucks for six two-hour sessions, otherwise it’s 35 bucks for a 2 hour session. We skied only 6 hours so it racked up to like 110 bucks for just a day of skiing in a small indoor hill. Obviously the 6 pack pass wouldn’t be worth it if you go once a year, but if you go twice or more it’s def worth it, evens out to 23 bucks for every 2 hours of skiing which isn’t bad at all

the park was pretty fun. Probably a lot better to go in the morning when stuff doesn’t get washed out. Just a little expensive for what it is, but hey, where else can you ski 365 days a year.

never been but that place bugs me. everyone in the ski industry preaches environmental sustainability so theres actually skiing in the future but then there is big snow refrigerating an entire ski hill 24/7. seems counter productive and how fun could it possibly be its tiny.

I mean, fair point. Counterpoint (related to the lack of diversity in skiing thread), it seems like it’s bringing a ton of city / urban first time skiers to the sport, many of which are non white. Colorado Sun did an article about it last year.

Good looking out!

remember any of the features? I’ve tried looking at pictures online. Looks like a box or two, barrel or two, and a few jumps?

Heard they have a rope im not sure if they do for sure and how fast it is

So they have a t bar but it’s not on 100% of the time, sometimes it’s just as quick to get on the chair right next to it.

and as for features tho they seemed to have expanded their fleet. They have a 15 foot flat bar, a 20 foot mini tube, 20 ish foot lil rainbow rail, corrugated tubes, couple boxes, etc. Nothing crazy but it’s definitely fun, the rails are real slick too.

If people want to ski they have to drive to the mountains. It isn’t sustainable to refrigerate ski hills. Great if the sports becoming more diverse but if it’s getting more diverse at the cost of winters and snow then what’s the point there will be no skiing. Unless it’s in malls with no soul the vibes and stoke of skiing can’t be indoors and be real.

Right no of course because the heli skiing and international trips to Japan are sooo sustainable...

Go argue about sustainability elsewhere.

I too am curious about this place, it must be better than not skiing. I could ski park there, but if brought a set of slalom skis there could I earn some sick turns or should I just stay on my park skis?

Agreed, the non park side seems pretty mellow from the pictures so not sure if those gs turns are an option, but I’m probably gonna venture out next month and report back!

Yes agree. We need more people from NYC to the ski areas and ski towns. Hope they put one of these in Texas and LA as they need to get more of that crowd to the mountains.

I want to go. Remember you could see it from my buddies roof 12 or 13 years ago when we'd be chillin. Stoked it finally opened after all these years. Need to make it once.

I went for a week last fall and it was awesome. Wasn't too expensive, wasn't too crowded, the 2 hour session is perfect for the size.

If they had made the base on the ground level of the mall instead of up on the 3rd floor it could have been so much bigger.

I went in jeans and got dirty looks and shit talk from a bunch of NYU kids which didn't bother me much but as you can imagine got quite annoying. Watching them pizza carve and snake people on the regular was quite enjoyable. The snowboards there were all good vibes. Fantastic people watching, solid park, 4/5 overall.

Gathering this is sarcasm...

Went last year a couple of weeks after it opened. Park is small and to hit the jump you just gotta bomb it from the top and skip all the rails but I think they've fixed this a bit. That being said, the snow is perfect, constantly. Learned backies there for the first time. Definitely worth going atleast once.

Big Snow Clip at 1:05 if you wanna see the jump they build.

For any of my fellow southeast riders that might see this they are apparently starting to build a indoor ski fridge in DC soon. Hopefully bigger than “big” snow

Update on this. Went yesterday and I would say it's moderately lit. Overall the features are all pretty small but I think that forces you to try new shit otherwise you'll get bored.

They had two small boxes up top (One 5 ft flat box and another that was technically two rails laid side by side for more of a box vibe), a jump area in the middle, a mellow up-flat-down to down box, the 20 ft barrel and 15 ft flat bar previously mentioned, and some jib shit at the bottom. The longer rails were both technically urban lips, super mellow though, the rest were straight on's.

The jump was weird, basically a booter set in the middle of the run with no landing area (just right back into the angle of the run). There was a very small tranny you could send it to if you hit the jump from the side. That was fun until I missed doing a shifty 1 and wrecked myself. They raked lips about once every 2 hours which kept the place sessionable, no major ruts to worry about and the snow was solid.

I went 12:30 to 4:30, it started getting packed around 4-5p. Definitely recommend just pre purchasing the 6 pack because then you can skip the front line, string them together if you want to stay longer, and it's basically 50% off the average session price.

We bombed the main slope for a few runs and it was very fun.

I spent a day there. I think it’s super cool. A bit of a novelty. But legit skiing. I wouldn’t fly across country to go. But if youre within a five hour drive, I’d say it’s worth it for some off season turns. Surprisingly cold in there too. A constant 28 degrees I think. Smallish, but fun park features.

Bro that rainbox is 5 ft long, everything small af there
