Be safe

this seasons snowpack is not setting up very good. it's super un-stable and i'm sure we all heard about the INBOUNDS avalanche at snowbird that killed somebody. we all know each other here in the regional forums of ns so if any of you guys plan on doing any backcountry skiing this season, check the avalanche conditions, get a beacon, shovel and probe (at least)

sign up and take a class so you know what you're doing when you're out there. i've already heard of 3 avalanche deaths this season and we're supposedly supposed to have 40 more inches by the end of this storm cycle.

there's tons of places to sign up for weekend long classes, the U offers some, REI offers them, there's tons. http://www.xmission.com/~haas/avalanche/node8.html

other things to consider if you're like me getting into sledding, a survival kit, radio/walkie talkie, handheld gps.

even if its not an avalanche, you could be stuck in a tree well 30 yards off a main trail at the resort or in the bc and if the conditions are right, nobody would ever know you were there. take the extra time to be safe.

This is a good warning. Kids should really listen to this and observe. It is way to sketchy to be out in the backcountry not knowing what your doing, even if you think you are in bounds. If you are making your own tracks after everything has been tracked out, you should probably leave asap. I witnessed 2 potentially dangerous slides in 1 run. It just isn't worth it.

^so true. and to be honest, even if they AREN't first tracks...look at yesterday's slides. where flagstaff slid, it had already been skied.

it's so true, though. i know most of you aren't backcounty skiers, but that DOESNT MATTER. as long as you aren't completely stuck in the park right now, you're out there skiing, you're in danger.

i would hate to hear about something happening to someone we know on here. don't mess with this snowpack. don't let it be you!

Yeah, its been crazy the past few days and its only going to get worse. There has been three deaths in the past two days due to avalanches. Stay out of the BC and take some classes like everyone else said.

yeah..so scarry right now. You would have to be an idiot to ski outside of a resorts open terrain right now

no joke.

i don't want to hear about more people dying in avalanches because they aren't educated.

even people that ARE educated, veterans of the wasatch, are being extremely cautious.

take this to heart
