Basic Verizon service with Blackberries?

So I have the pretty basic Verizon service, family plan minutes, 500 non-verizon texts a month, unlimited verizon texts, no internet or anything. I have used nicer phones that I have bought off of kids before like en-v touch and voyagers, and I am buying a blackberry storm.

A kid i was talking to said if i buy it, i HAVE to get a better service plan, since its a blackberry. Is this true?

please tell me where to purchase said blackberry storm!! blackberries are delicious I can't even imagine a storm of them? do they pour from the sky like hail?

yeah you have to get an internet plan but why get a blackberry if your not going to use the internet?

i think you can get an extremely limited internet plan for an extra 10 bucks a month but that is only good for 25mb or you can get unlimited for 30. im not 100% on those prices but they should be in the ballpark

What!? That's straight retarded. How did you have it activated?

The way i've gotten around it before is just activating it with the automated machine over the phone. I've done that for phones where you're supposed to have a data plan before and haven't gotten charged. Do you think this will work with a blackberry?

the data package which includes internet, navigator and email etc is $30 a month. they won't let you get rid of the data plan like the used to a few years back because they make a ton of money off of it now that they force anyone that buys a phone with internet capability to get a $10 data package. Pretty soon you won't be able to get a "basic contract" because of how phones are becoming more and more reliant on the internet to back-up and download network information.

ease of use???? blackberrys are about the most confusing fucking phones ever produced. definately so you can look cool with your crackberry. OMG your so up to date

Since you have to switch phones through Verizon's servers, I doubt it. I think you can do this on ATT by switching out SIM cards, but if you try to change phones on Verizon's website it will force you to add a data plan before allowing you to activate.

truth. i have one for work and i have a droid for my personal phone and i fucking hated trying to learn how to use my crackberry....they are def not easy to learn how to use.

The Blackberry is the easiest smart phone to use. It really is pretty basic, I dont understand what can be confusing about it.

And OP there really is no point in getting one if your not going to have the data package with it. it kinda defeats the purpose. You can get a basic phone that has internet capability for a much cheaper monthly price. But then again I have AT&T and they rape you for everything. Verizon is prob a little better.

Verizon isn't fucking anyone. It clearly states that when you buy a Blackberry, you have to pay the mandatory 30 dollar additional fee for the data package. If you don't pay that, you can't get a Blackberry. It's that simple.

It's true, you can't use a blackberry without buying an internet plan. When I got my first blackberry, I simply switched my phones online on the Verizon website using the HEX code on the back of the phone. It automatically adds the data plan to your bill. There is no way around. Blackberry = data plan.

Yeah you should get a bold if your going to get a black berry and like said before.. right when you activate that phone on the VZW network it will automatically add a data plan to your line weather you like it or not. Its a quality of service feature... Verizon just wont allow a smart phone on the network with out a data plan, 1 because it degrades the user experience of the smart phone and 2 without the required data plan they would not make enough money to subsidize the Droid/Black Berry phones they give away for $50 or $100.
Once you use your BB you'll prolly never go back to a normal phone, but if your set on a touch screen, an android phone would be better.... If you want a key board, get blackberry bold because its 6.0 capable

I have a blackberry, well I've had two, both have been a ton of problems. I have one still but just recently it stopped holding a charge and so I have to charge it mid-day. Verizon blows. Don't do it. We have a cheap plan but once I get out of college, I'm off of that plan.
