Bad Skis?

To me it seems that you can't find a truly bad ski today. You can buy a ski that isn't right for you, but it seems that every ski performs well in its intended use. Have any of you had some truly awful skis that hindered your ability to have fun?
 
I think op is getting more at the fact that skis nowadays are miles more advanced than even a decade ago. Even the shittiest skis aren't actually that bad if you sit down and think about it. Sure there's skis that people talk about like they're the holy grail, but it's pretty hard to make a bad decision these days assuming you're picking the right ski for its intended use.

Anyone who grew up on Rossignol resort trash rentals can relate
 
Looks like The House finally sold out of these but Teton Skis sucked. I bought a pair probably 8 years ago cause it was the cheapest twin tip that 8th grade me could possibly buy. Tips delamed second day even though I was a soft skier. I riveted the tips back together a couple years and put a tune on them just fun, wow are they bad. Tails have zero support, do not carve well. Fell apart just as quickly as before. Truely a terrible ski.

currently have a shrine in my basement dedicated to on3p skis and bo ferro. holiest of holy grails

the skis were fine for the price. then the whole fiasco happened and then people collectively decided to say the skis sucked too. revisionist history (no pun intended)

i should have been more clear, i understood the (complex, intellectual) joke but it reminded me of how many people retroactively decided the skis sucked after the whole thing went down. just dumb group-think
 
joystick skis, I had a pair a while back and they were god awful. Ripped my bindings out time and time again, they were cheap and looked cool at the time though.

I agree. I skied on the 2020 ARVs that my buddy just got, and they are not the ski for me. But I could totally see why a lot of people love them. There is pretty much a ski for every kind of skier out there nowadays.

Sounds more like a binding issue rather than a ski issue
 
The atomic infamous/punx 5 are outright garbage, everyone I know who has had a pair of either of those skis broke them in under 5 days and it seems people on here break them fast as well.

But you must pay homage to pebble creek and ride with us at least once in your lifetime in order to be accepted into ski heaven. Sacrificial core shot is mandatory.

I swear I only see those at the smaller ski areas and every user is above the age of 45. Often with tele bindings
 
Salomon BBR's. The shop my mom bought her boots from gave her a set for free. (Family friends) They had them marked down for like two seasons and no one bought them. They aren't my cup of tea but they do ski well for their intended use but I think people just couldn't get over the design.

I will partake in daily prayer

I should be over there sometime in late February or early March. I will hit you and Bo up, havent ridden Pebble since 2017.
 
yeah anyone who grew up park skiing in the early 2000s knows how awful a lot of skis used to be in terms of durability as well as performance. Also the giant, fully cambered, no taper pow skis that existed at the time
 
Not sure if they still are, but I know all the surface/joystick stuff at least used to be made very cheaply in China. Couple buddies of mine snapped their old Blanks right in half (the ones with the truly “blank” topsheets, transparent wood lol) after very mellow park hits.

I’ve gone through several pairs of Joystick poles, they usually snap straight in half after any semi significant stress. Why do I keep buying them? Perhaps I relish a true “cheap” experience - you truly get what you pay for. Hard to come by these days!

Yeah but I heard ON3P's are trash, I hear that if you ride into a ditch they break.

Hilariously enough at my home mountain these were, and still are a popular ski - granted for an older non-park skiing demographic, but I literally have had customers who struggled to find a replacement for these because they thought they were so good.
 
It’s hard to outright call some skis “bad” but there are a lot of skis that you shouldn’t buy no matter who you are. There’s very few unique ski shapes out there and among the different classes of skis there’s always a few standouts, a few boring ones, and a few skis that are just not anywhere near as good as their competitors. I can’t think of very many straight garbage skis but I can think of quite a few skis that are much worse than other similar skis.

This, as someone who got scammed the talisman to this day still remains my favorite ski of all time

We have a pair that have been sitting in the shop since 2013. We will sell them at cost if you want them. Please.
 
I've been on some lightweight touring skis that are clearly not meant for any downhill whatsoever. I've never been on such a chattery and unreliable ski. It felt like riding on two thin metal sheets, and the edge hold was absolutely pathetic. Also any bumps or rough spots go straight through the skis and into your shins. God awful skis for anyone who wants to ski anything steeper than 10 degrees.
