Bad Mount

Go Brand Newt 09 Ehp's mounted the other day, used them as soon as I picked them up. Later on I seen that one screw was in my base, not a large bump but still very noticeable. Went to the shop wasn't to mad since the guy that did it wasn't there.
Free tunes and mounts from now on for sure, don't really care what they say.
However when I went to pick them up the owner was a total dick, I don't even think he knew about it. Only words he said to me were "What's this" when I handed him my stub.
So I'm looking for some feedback, not really sure how damaged my ski is now. The guy who fixed it realized a core shot could rip the screw out, so i'm sure he didn't just give it a base grind and hit it with the razor blade.
But should the binding still be in the same position? Should I demand MSRP for my ski's?Will this affect my bindings as well, Fritchi Freerides?
Any Similar Stories and there outcomes......

Bummer dude - but it might not be the end of the world. My park skis (Line Stepups) were also screwed too far and have base bumps, but it hasn't seemed to affect my riding too much. I try to keep a layer of wax on them at all times so that the bumps aren't so evident, but I still feel a bit of drag on groomers. As far as I know the screws will hold as good as any other, unless, like you said, you get a core shot right on the screw.

You should definitely go into the shop and make as big a stink as possible. Read over the fine print on the liability form that you signed when you gave them the skis. I haven't heard of a shop giving MSRP for botching a mount job, but if you're persistent they'll definitely hook you up one way or another - maybe even skis from last year's stock they're trying to get rid of. Your talking point should be "YOU RUINED MY SKI YOU BASTARDS I PAID $XXX FOR THIS SKI AND NOW ITS FUCKED UP BEFORE I EVEN RIDE IT AND ITS YOUR FAULT SO WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO ABOUT IT"

Ski mounting - One of the few circumstances where too long of a screw is a bad thing.

If the ski looks right I would mark it so that you can tell which ski had the issue. Go out and ski it. If you rip the binding off, go back to the shop and demand new skis. If they resist, file complaint with local BBB and post the name of the shop on NS and any other forum site you can think of, so other people won't get screwed too.

I'm not trying to argue, but definitely try to resolve the issue before skiing on it any more. The reason for this is because if you do rip it out or even if you don't they can tell you that by skiing on the ski you have damaged it too, and made the problem more difficult to resolve.
First off, I have had several bad mounts on new skis and it fucking sucks, especially cause they are new. But, in all honesty it usually doesn't affect the integrity of the ski
I don't think demanding MSRP is the solution, but maybe discuss with them the loss in value or lifetime of your skis cause of the damage. Ie: they will have a lower resale value cause they basically have holes through them.
I don't understand how ski shops fuck up mounts so often. Its not hard, and further the tech SHOULD have checked to make sure the screw and drill bit he was using weren't too long. After all thats why you PAID to have a professional do it right? If you didn't care if it was done right you could have just done it yourself.

Here's the thing, they've tried to fix it so ride them if you're comfortable... but for fucks sake don't go pushing it 100% until you're positive they're safe. However, if they aren't safe and/or the mount fucks up within 10-15 days of riding, you better be in that shop getting new skis.

I've had a mount rip out in 20 days of riding and though it was a fucking headache to deal with and took almost a full season because the shop was trying to get out of it.. I got a new pair of skis. I shit you not though, I had to get Armada's techs to look at the skis, tell me exactly which holes were drilled wrong, send my skis back to me at which point I had to document in detail everything... pictures, measurements, etc. Only after sending a in depth PDF of the "report" and threatening to get lawyers involved did they finally offer new skis.

Then again I've also had a shop give me new skis on the spot after mounting a pair of at like, -30 from center (back bidings were literally on the tails).

One more point, everytime you redrill in a new spot, the old mounting holes become the weakest point on the ski and are by far the most likely place for skis to break in the park. I did my senior engineering thesis on ski failure and this was one very obvious thing that stuck out to me. Those "plugs" they put in just keep water out and do pretty much nothing for actual strength. So ya, if you have to redrill a barnd new pair of skis because of a bad mount, you should just get new skis.

Well didn't get MSRP but $800 cash wasn't bad considering I bought them for $400 a week ago. I heard of 2 other stories and wasn't going to let them get away with it Total pricks when I got in there, I asked what he did when he fixed my ski, he pulled out the screw and it was fine he said? All he fucking did was razor blade to the base grinder, this is obvious after he tells me all adult skis have one screw length...
This wasn't even the tech that mounted but "fixed them". Fritchi's do have multiple screw lengths and all they did was put a long screw in the tip end of the heel plate, which should have been small. They couldn't even realize this, he worked there for ten years? After talking to that tech I asked to talk to the owner, who earlier told me I had to wait to talk to the tech , throwing his hands up in the air saying he has nothing to do with it. I told him he was very professional and waited for the tech outside.
So when I talked to then owner it only took about a minute until he was offering to order new skis, or give me cash. Those ski's were sick though, went to a local shop in town and got last years S7's for $400.
Thanks for the new skis and bag of weeds, can't wait to deal with these guys again when I'm come in because they have not set rental ski's properly for clients i'm teaching, and that's all i'll be back for.

ran into a similar problem, my heel binding ripped out of the ski since the tech didn't mount properly..wrecked the ski basically. the shop wouldn't do jack all, so I went to the company and they were willing to warranty them for me.

glad it more or less worked out, but if you can't ever get anywhere with the shop, go to the manufacturer and they may able to help you out

Same thong happen to my kung fujas, tey drilled them and after 20 minute the screw make a bump in my base. I call the owner of the shop and i show him what happened. Since i mount them there they find me another pair of kung fujas, even if they were sold out in their 3 shop. They remount them for free and thats it.
