Backyard skiing : pvc rails

I was wondering if it would be ok to use PVC to make a rail or two? my main concern is that it will crack with the cold and weight. Thoughts? and is there another cheep alternative to metal other then pvc?

I have 3 PVC rails. They work fine and they slide well. There really isn't a material that's as cheap and durable as PVC, but if you wanted to make a box or something you could use HDPE. Using metal is hard unless you know how to weld and you have an up-to-date tetanus shot.If you really wanted to step your park up, you can give these guys a call. Their stuff is very pricy but it is quality.

You should be fine. I hate pvc but I used to build a lot of rails out of it.

Pros, easy to drill and cut. Dirt cheap

Cons, it's fucking pvc

All you need is 2x4s and pvc. Can make a bullet proof rail for less than 20 bucks.
