Backyard ski hill.

So recently i have completed my childhood dream of having a ski hill at my house. Two weeks ago, i borrowed a bulldozer from my work and made myself a hill. its 75ft long and 30ft wide and a consistant 20 degree slope the whole way down. So far it hasnt cost me anything because the dozer was free. Yesterday i finished raking it off smooth and planted grass on it. My plan is to cover the whole thing with turf to make a smooth surface and then i will have my ski hill. I pump water from the nearby stream so i can have as much as i want. If everything gos as planned, i will have a yearround ski hill at my house. For rails, i have a 10ft steel flatbar at my house and two 10ft double barrel pvc's.

So NS, my question to you is, if you had this hill and could make any setup you want, what would you have?

Downrail, Flat Rail, DFD, Flat-down is what I would want

and if you can get a small jump in there that would be dope. Take a pic when your done your set-up, I would love to see it.

first off, this is so dope, that it wicked ill

I would throw alot of rails and boxes in and some random jobs to keep it fun

Wow im glad to see that everyone is as stoked about this as i am. i live in the middle of the woods so the frameing for all of my rails/jibs is going to be log. it should be sick. ill take some pics in the morning when its not dark out.

To get a flat hill, i had to cut into a bank on one side. so there is a clif of like 5 feet on one side. its about halfway down the hill so speed shouldnt be an issue. i was thinking about building like a gap or jump to jib or something on it. ill post pics in the morning so maybe i can get some ideas using the natural terrain.

My plan for the non winter months is to have features spaced out enough so that you can hit them individually head on then for the winter, I can move them around to make more of a continuous run. Thoughts?

that sounds so sick! i think you should build a whole bunch of rails and boxes just so you can use anyone of them when ever, and then build a jump at the end of it. sounds sick, good luck to you

another question....are you going to hike 75 feet every time???? no hate just wondering if you have a four wheeler or something

You don't have to make a full run. It would be like having multiple dropins, just session the one you want. And 75ft isn't that far, it's less than hiking most rails at my mountain.

oo i gotchya, hey you live in the midwest or southeast???? if so im sneaking in someday haha...ya know you could probably charge money to kids

are you using green turf like summer setup.

and in the winter you should truck in snow [or something to get a base. like snow from plowed parking lots. i am guessing the company you work for plow in the winter so u could get a pickup truck and have them dumb snow in the beds with the loaders and put it on your hill for a base

you need one of these

sick idea but turf isnt a good idea. if its not tight, you wont be able to slide on it very well, and minus well be skiing on the grass only. maybe invest in snowflex?

snowflex definitely. turf is slow. i know this from setup experience. also as far as rails go, just get a fuckload of 5-10ft segments of all types so you can arrange in any way you want. go crazy

Just my idea but before you put down turf i think you should shape the hill like a flat (for the deck) long down flat down. I hope that makes sense because if its continuously down it wont realy have any real flat rails.

Some of my best ski memories have involved backyard skiing...kudos to you for making it happen, pics please?

looks sick but i cant afford that.

in response to making sure the turf is smooth and tight(wrinkle free), i was thinking about using metal tent stakes to hold it down. therefore you could move it around. Also planning on doing this for using orange fence, i have a shitload.

i understand what you are saying. I build the park at my local mountain so i understand what needs to happen.

This sounds really sick man. I recommend covering your hill with some plywood, though this might kill off all the grass you planted, it will make you go so much faster on the turf/plastic fencing. You won't be able to hold the turf down with metal stakes, it will just rip and you wont get it perfectly stretched out. It's 100 times better that way, I found this out when I made my setup last summer. Check my profile for some pictures

there is all of the pictures. i know they look kinda sketch but i still have alot of work to do on them.

Where in NY? If it was close to where I lived I would be down to help you out with construction or anything else if you wanted help. I live in southern NY, basically and the border of NJ. Congrats your hill looks sick. My idea is when winter gets closer build a jump frame and maybe a homemade snowgun.

flat bar with a small drop

and build up some dirt so the rail is actually on flat ground coming out of the hill. less sketchy if you use it in the summer, and less snow is needed in the winter.

That's not that bad actually, its about 2 hours from where I live. Its not that close but park twelve60 is about that far away from my house. I would travel that far to help you out after I get out of school but I don't know if I would have a ride there. Once you figure out what your final setup will be PM me when you are going to start building and if you want help and I'll see if I could help out. There's probably a bunch of NS'ers that would be willing to help you build up around Albany.

You are so incredibly lucky.

But, I would set up an Up Box, a tap of some sort, downrail w donkey, A staircase would be crazy.
