So recently I had the idea of building a rail setup in my backyard after seeing some videos, so I bought a pvc rail and my question is, do i need to add something on the pvc like wax or anything else or it is gonna work without anything?

PVC should work fine on its own. I have a few pvc rails and they serve me well without any wax. You just have to be aware they are a bit different from Metal bc they are a bit grippier if you will, and they are sometimes challenging in warm weather but other than that they work fine without wax. I’m sure you could wax them if you preferred but I have never felt the need to
 
I’ve had mine for years and never waxed them. You might dig into them after a while but you can usually just slide right over it. It won’t be as smooth as metal but it still works great
