Anybody done any backpacking trips yet?

I took one to 3rd beach because of how much snow we have had at Baker, things are just starting to get hike able now. Gona try and head up to heliotrope, skyline or yellow asterbutte. If anyone has been to anywhere in the North Cascades let me know!
 
Thinking about Park Butte and taking the route up to high camp if it's clear enough otherwise we will just go as far as possible.

Ya, up around Baker a lot of hikes are still to washed out and covered with snow. Skyline divide is pretty much covered with a foot of snow about a mile up. You can't even get to Artist point!

Crazy fucking winters, gona get some good camping next week though...
 
Camping is fun. Especially if you get out in the middle of nowhere. Central ID has some great spots to spend a week or two.

Give me a beer and a gun, and I'm happy having fun. Especially if there are cool mountains and creeks/rivers near by.
 
I think I will go back to the Clear Water one of these days. Spend the mornings walking up the mountains, kayaking, and having more fun with explosives then a sane person ought to. And spend the Afternoon's and evenings in a fishing in a lawn chair by the river with beers cooling in the edge of the creek.
 
Where exactly did you go because i am trying to plan a trip for next week and am having trouble finding a hike i wanna do that isn't under 3 feet of snow.
 
My dad did Sloan Peak last weekend and he said it's actually pretty good now. With the nice weather of the past month, the melt has actually happened. Higher stuff should be snow-free for labor day. I'm headed to somewhere in the North Cascades for a five day next week.
 
Ya i was thinking of heading to yellow aster butte for a couple days, it's tough to get time off work makes goin camping that much harder...
 
Why fight the snow? Take advantage by bringing the skis, whiskey, and build a jump over your tent. We did just that back in July on Baker.
 
I would do this but i am the only one out of my buddies with a pair of skins so i would be miles ahead of them while they slog through the snow. Unless they get snowshoes, which they are to broke to buy...

But i did do a skin/backpack trip last week just up around Artist point and chain lakes was quite fun indeed.
 
Word. I think you will be fine. There is definitely still snow up there but it isn't really sustained anymore.
 
Ya i heard it's like 50/50, kinda tough to follow the trail in spots but i know my way there so its all good.

 
drive over to the salmon la sac campground. there is a trail head there that leads to the alpine lakes wilderness. bout a ten mile hike out to waptus lake. from there you can get to deep lake or spade lake. all of which are sick. go to the cle elum ranger station and they can hook you up with maps and what not.
 
lol no no, the trail head is near the icicle river...alpine lakes is rad tho. it's so nice the usfs sells permits on the weekends to stay up there. i don't thinky ou need one if you're day tripping tho
 
Ya thats what i thought, all though i really do wanna try a rafting trip with gear somewhere. It just seems like more complications.

I hiked in the enchantments last summer and it was beyond excellent, i recommend it. I'll be hiking baker next wednesday-friday
 
it isn't exactly backpacking but at the beginning of the summer we biked lopez island. we biked from the ferry to the campground by the spit and spent the night there. The next day we ended up ditching our backpacking packs in the woods to bike around the island but it was a good time.
 
Ya i had a friend bike around a couple of the san juans this past summer, he said it was a blast. Wish i coulda done it...
