Backpacking in yellowstone

I know that the main attractions are PACKED this year, but I heard from a guy I work with that the back country is still pretty open. I was just wondering if anyone could confirm or deny that. Also any recommended routes? My friends and I are planning to do a 3 day in the north eastern area, and we have time for another 3 day.

Just dump whatever information you think I should know, thanks!

I lived in jackson hole for about 5 years and in my opinion, id do a backpacking trip in grand teton over YS. Much, much more mountainous and beautiful. Not to mention there will be waaay less tourists!

How many miles and how strenuous do you want to go?

I did this 24 mile trail with my friends last year. Can't remember the name of it but it's along one of the main rivers and it's super cool. Also doesn't smell like ass.
