Backflips

Hey guys I have been skiing park for about 2 years now and I am only 15 and I can do up to a 720 as far as spins go and 270 on pretz 270 and all that good stuff and a ton of grabs, but I want to backflip so bad. I have a trampoline and I can do dubs on it but I don't know how to go about doing one on snow. Keep in mind I live on he east coast and we don't really get powder that I can try it in. If you can give me some pointers that would be great. Also tell me how you did your first backflip. Thanks!

What do you mean as a backflip and not a gainer?

Like, when you do a normal backflip on a tramp you stay in the same place or move back a little. Don't try to gain ground, just throw it like a normal backflip. Or you'll end up like my friend.

(Before anyone says it, the jump was big enough for backflips and he said he set this like a gainer. He learned his lesson and can backflip now)

First things first- Searchbar. But alright, I was in the same boat as you for a long time bud. I could dub on the tramp too. One day I said it was enough and I was going to back that day. I went to my local sledding hill with a few friends and we built a jump with a lot of pop, let it freeze and then I just threw it. Do that same thing and pack the landing with soft snow and you'll be fine. Once you do the first one, you'll kick yourself for thinking they were scary.

It's all commitment and patience. Don't huck it too early. If you don't commit you'll catch your tips. It's really all the same but maybe a little harder on the throw than tramp. Throw your hips and head. Make sure to pop and not just fold back.

i can't even dub on tramp but I can backflip on skis, it really isn't as hard as you think its mostly mental.

I can double backflip on tramp but I'm too scared to try a single on skis

Is a double backflip as hard as I think it is? Im like 90 percent sure I can do it but im just afraid do. How did you learn how to do a dub back on tramp?

It is all mental... if your really freaked out though just wait for a pow day, supposed to be a good winter on the east coast, so there's bound to be one.

If you can double on a tramp you should have no problem back flipping on snow. That being said, if you can't get access to an airbag I strongly suggest waiting til there's a bit of deep snow and building a really poppy jump for the first few attempts. Having broken bones doing flips on jumps, I strongly advise working your way up to certain tricks (especially flips). Wear a helmet and throw it back hard. Good Luck!

How I basically learned was my friend knew already how to one and I first did a dub rodeo because I felt more confident with that and I just had one other person on the tramp giving me a double bounce and I landed it my second try... It's all about commitment and staying in a ball or however you want to do it. I recommend bringing your knees to your chest when you do it. If you don't commit fully you will land on your head and your neck with hurt for a week or so haha

How would you say you set your backflips and gainers differently???

I still can't dub back on a tramp out of fear, but I've don't them at Ohio Dreams. They're super easy.

For a gainer, your trying to make yourself go forward while doing a backflip. Most people do this by forcing their hips forward.

You should set your hips up and out at a diagonal angle.

I'm still kind of lost.... Can you tell me how you did your first backflip on snow?

Haha I just huck ed it on a tiny jump and it came right around. But I was still scared of flips, so I didn't do any until the end of the year. Saw my friends throwing backies out the end of a halfpipe, and I lapped the park all day just doing that at the end. Conquered my fear of backflips. Always make sure to pop so you don't hit your head

One day me and my friend just went for it and threw a outdoor chair cushion as a crash mat. You'll never feel ready to try it so you just have to commit

it's 100% in your hips. watch videos of properly thrown backflips where they are nice and laid out the whole time. you'll notice that their body makes an arc on the kicker as they pop. thrust your hips up at the sky and throw your head back and you'll have flipped around got your feet back under you before you know it.

YOU REALLY NEED TO THROW YOUR ENTIRE BODY BACK! Not just your head! I tried a backflip, only whipped my head back, stopped rotation midair, forgot to tuck my knees up, and landed on my head and bloke my collar bone.

Step1: Approach jump, knees bend

Step2: When your tips hit the lip, pop HARD and throw your ENTIRE upper body strait back, and your head as well

Step3: Keep your rotation going by pulling your knees up to your chest and wrapping your arms around your knees.

Step4: Spot your landing, make sure your tips get around.

Step5: Stomp it and ride away with maximum after bang, don't smile or cheer.

Its all in your head, just huck it and stay committed.

Don't listen to people saying to throw it as hard as you can, unless it's a three-foot bump you are hitting. You will end up on your back.

For your first one your don't want to worry about style. Don't use poles, and kind of throw your hands up above you while popping and letting your weight fall back. Then open up your body and look until you can see the landing. You will come around andland without even having to think about it, just point your hands at the landing. A step up/step over type jump is best to learn on. When I was like 13 I learned on a parking lot snow pile, which was really soft. That's the best way to get a no-consequences landing in the east coast.

If for some reason you don't see the landing, start panicking and wriggle sideways while tucking up, so you don't land on your neck like a jabron.

you can do dubs on tramp but havent tried on snow yet??? seriously dude, if your comfortable with backys (which it sounds like you are) its one of the easier tricks out there!

Be confident, visual what your going to do, be patient and pop off the edge of the lip and let your muscle memory take over! the only problem i had when i learned them was popping early. make sure you wait till your at the edge of the lip and let er rip. I garuntee youll land it first or second try if you commit
