Backflips...

alright, so i really want to learn a simple backflip this year. problem is, i have no idea how to do em and no way of doing them. inb4 tramp, diving board, pow, cliffs into water, foampits, water ramps

I HAVE ACCESS TO NONE OF THESE!!

well in the summer i was trying gainers off a diving board, but i was landing on my head every time until my knee hit my nose and broke it...

now tell me how i learn a backflip safely! any ideas??

btw last year i tried fronts on ski and almost broke my back.

thanks NS +k to good answers

Well if you really can't figure out a way to get at least SOME access to a tramp, you're just going to have to sack up and throw it this winter.

if you tryed backflip on diveboard and you always landed on your head then just dont try one on ski cause you will die.

I'll find you that 4frnt video which was really helpful to me. give me 5 sec. It's how I learned them on the tramp two weeks ago, funniest shit to do.

when i learned i just built a small poppy jump and went for it, stuck it first try which was sick. but i tried to teach a friend and he landed right on his head. I find a lot of people think the jump will do the flip for them. The key is to make sure you use your legs to get to flipping rotation, waving your hands around doesn't do nearly as much. Also make sure you pop up off the jump as opposed to just trying to flip yourself around. Good pop off the jump + leading with your head and bringing your legs around = perfect backflip

thanks for the vid!

but i dont have a tramp so i wouldn't be able to practice.

and to the guy above, i think it was because i wasnt popping enough, and i only weigh 110lbs so i dont get much spring off the board.

Find a gym near your place and go at the free-for-all session with your buds, really fun and there are some pretty damn hot guuurls.

mini thread jack here. whats a goos size of jump to try it on. im extemley comfortabke with backs. i just dont want to do it of some thing huge

honestly, backflips are way easier than a front flip but it is alot more mental.

go to diving board and stand on the edge then.. have ur friend stand at the back of the board and stare the fuck down out of you. this sounds gay but look him straight in the eyes so you dont look left.....for starting out try a back dive and just sort of lean back and try to back dive.... as you get this add a jump to it then once you get that add that jump upwards and throw harder...legs over head and head to heels

that how i learned i guess it

i just learned by someone helping me get the flip around.. and i used a crash pad for the tramp...

but when i tried it skiing like the video above me says.. try to over rotate the flip and soon you will be more confidate with what your doing... but DO IT ON A TRAMP FIRST is helps sooo much

normally i would suggest checking out the searchbar as this question pops up daily...but in your case i am going to recommend leaving the backflips to the professionals.

Umm... Jumping into a bucket of feathers?

Really if you want to learn this rotation ya might have to look harder. Its not impossible to find trampolines

last year was the first time i tried a back flip after a big snowfall i build a decent size jump and for the landing i just pilled up snow and after my 2nd try i got it.

now one of my favorite tricks. weight doesn't really matter on a board. I think I was in grade 3 or 4 when I learned backs off a diving board, so not heavy. It's all in how you pop up. Before I tried on skis, I learned gainers off the d-board because that's the real feeling-moving forward while flipping backward. Then just like everyone else here is saying, build a jump with lots of pop; I think ours was like 3-4 feet high and we just threw snow on the landing. The best thing you can do is overrotate. I put my first one straight on my ass. and second. and third. and didn't ride out until probably my 6th or 7th try. My buddy did not and had a few wicked scorpions, don't be like him (guy in orange in video). Also I was like 19 before I tried. Here's the vid of us learning. Pretty stupid vid but w/e.

Something that really helped me was to use your hips to throw it. Kids go in waving their arms around, but thats not gonna get you anywhere. Use your hips, look for your landing, COMMIT COMMIT COMMIT. you'll stomp it and be sooooooo stoked nothing better than your first backflip

Landed my first one today! First try I threw it too hard and hit my head on the lip, second try I let the jump do the pop and just kinda looked back and it all came around. So weird though because I learned them after fronts, lincolns, and even rodeos, and they are the easiest one by far.

If you don't have access to a trampoline:

1.Wait for a big snowfall.

2.Build a little kicker.

3.Put a lot of snow on the landing.

4. Try.

That's how I learned and I'm not even able to do 'em on a divingboard :P

1. Find a decent sized kicker (16-20 feet)

2. Do few tricks like 360s, 540s.

3. Then when you start thinking of attempting, do only ONE straight air. You will never do it if you pussy out more than twice.

4. Get the rotation set to your mind during lift.

5. POP, not too much, lay back not too hard. Don't hurry with the rotation. its not nice to land with your back.

6. Check landing, you will see it coming really fast into your sight, because your legs are just starting the flip.

7. When you see necessary pull legs under you.

Remember to COMMIT, do not just throw something. You must control the flip, feel it bro. godluck

1. you're gunna wanna find a decent kicker that you're still comfortable on2. you might wanna hike it a couple times instead of keep taking the chair and throw some decent tricks 360's 540's

3. Now you're gunna wanna work up some confidence in yourself

4. fill youre mind with good thoughts its easy to fill it with bad thoughts with like what if i fall and everything try you're best to not think about that and just fill you mind with good thoughts

5.you're gunna pop off the jump and look at the sky and huck backwards try to put knees over the head kinda like a tuck

6. youre now looking at the sky and you're gunna wanna look for the ground spot youre landing and stomp

(make ssure you dont hesitate in the middle of youre backflip

I learned fronts first cause ther easier on tramps and boards, also for a backflip stay commited in the air thats all it really takes

COMMIT FULLY! most important thing. pop and flip when you tips go off the kicker. and remember look for the ground you'll come around!

Think about it like your takin a dump. If you start pushin it out and then you just stop mid way through its gonna be an uncomfortable mess. But if you commit and dont stop pushing till your done its gonna be cleaner and feel great. Just lay back and keep flipping till your not inverted anymore. And you will definitely know when you are inverted and not inverted.

I learned flips earlier this year and I'd say I got them down pretty good. My .02 they feel a lot like gainers. so if you cant gainer, you probably shouldnt huck the flip.

Backies are literally the easiest and most fun trick. If youve done them on tramps or a diving board or something, basically same set. Just get a good set, pop, bring your knees up and look for the landing.

I learned mine by 1st tramp. 2nd Kicker in to pow. 3rd park. except if you can doo other tricks besides backs on the tramp then try those cuz b-flips r easy, not steezy, and dont score well in comps.

well, you landed on your head on the diving board, and you almost broke your back on the front flip.

there is no safe way, especially given your previous lack of success. just wait until you can safely practice before you do it on snow.

YO! so hers my situation. i have successfully learned how to backflip on a very lippy jump in my backyard. but im not sure how to take this to large park jum[s that are inevitably going to be much less poppy. what should i do differently/the same? any tips/pointers would be greatly appreciated!

you do it the same way essentially. your set will be the same, the difference will be in how much/hard you tuck. on your poppy backyard jump it does most of the work for you; on a park jump, it will be you popping hard and tucking that will get you around.
