Backflip?

This weekend I'll be up at vail, CO with some skiing friends, and we're bringing avi shovels so we can build a jump off this ridge we all know. I want to stomp my first backflip on it. what is the fastest way to build the jump, and how steep should the slope be that we build it on?

For backies a steeper lip makes it easier. For big jumps you want the angle of the lip to match the angle of the landing but if it's smaller it doesn't need to be perfect. If the snow is dense enough to form blocks of snow, you can use that method. If not just make a pile of snow and kinda shape it out. Pack down the snow on the lip with your skis too. Make sure you bring water to pour a bit on the lip to make it icier/firmer so it doesn't collapse. You can also lay on it for a few minutes and use you body heat to melt the top layer a little and then it'll refreeze harder. You really don't want the lip to give out when you pop. Make sure there's a good inrun and stomp it out with skis on. If the landing is pow then leave it, but if it isn't then you can chop it up a bit with the shovels and by kicking into with ski boots so its softer if you eat shit.

For my first backie I just found a natural dip between runs and built it at the end of that. Probably wasn't the best idea but building with the terrain not against it is always helpful.

Remember to commit 100% If you do itll make things go alot smoother. With commitment youll land one in under 3Trys or bring it around at the least.
