Backflip help

So this is my first year skiing park and I have progressed really well. I'm comfortable doing 540's on small jumps in the park and grinding rails. I am starting to move into medium park and currently lap park lane in breck. Before the end of the season I would like to learn backflips before the end of the season but breck closes this weekend. So more likely than not I will grow a pair and do one. Is there anything I should focus on when doing it to make it go as smooth as possible? Should I try laid out or tucked first? And lastly what size jump should I try it on?

you just gotta commit and throw yourself backwards… I just learned them the other week! it feels really awkward the first or second time you try it but then its realllyyy easy! It barely hurts if you don't land it too if the jumps are built nicely! landed it my second try, good luck!

i'm sure theres other people on here who can give you better advice but this worked for me haha

i would suggest that you learn them on a trampoline first, there is less risk of injuring yourself, and it teaches you how to spot the landing

really its all about committing though, if you commit you generally land it (or come very close). just have to learn to commit to the back rotation.

when approaching the lip, as you pop, throw your hips up and tuck your head back while arching your back. try to push your hips up towards the sky. You can bring your knees in to your chest for a faster rotation, or extend your legs out to slow yourself down. for learning maybe dont use poles and use your arms to initiate the momentum by bringing your arms up over your head as you pop and tuck your head back. once you get better at them keep your arms by your hips (gives you more control and looks a lot better)

i wouldnt try it over something huge, but definately dont want to do it over something too small either or you might not make it all the way around, i would suggest something between 10-20 feet.

hopefully this helps. goodluck!

Try it on a tramp or airbag first. Do NOT throw it like a gainer. Throw it like a normal backflip. I recommend doing slightly tucked up backflips out of the end of a halfpipe or a very lippy jump.

getting it down on tramp or airbag first is a huge bonus....

then to get started, check in your jump straight a few times and try to visualise/time your backflip

then when you're gonna do it, make sure you set it nice and square, shoulders straight, hips straight, etc. Basically make sure you don't get off axis

remember to pop and spot, pop correctly (not too soon, not too late) throw your hips forward, arch your back and look up until you spot your landing...

in the air you can then adjust accordingly by tucking or keeping stretched out a little longer (feeling this is the hardest, using the knuckle as a reference helps a lot)

anyways, good luck with it and don't forget to bring a condom when you throw your first one cause bitches 'll be cravin for your D !

Lol thanks!

I think you should do it. Backflip is the easier trick you can do on a jump because you almost see the landing all the time and you can stop de rotation if you think you are doin it to fast. You just have to go for it and pop
