Backcountry

Don't go in the backcountry if you don't have a really good idea of what you're doing. Just because you go with somebody that does know how to deal with avalanches doesn't mean it's ok, you need to know how to recover somebody fast. But if you are looking for backcountry in that area, you will need either skins or a snowmobile, you have to work to get to anything good.

You can go to the lower part of Beehive Basin (turn right off the highway after Big Sky and before Moonlight).

There's no avalanch danger until you get above the trees, and there are plenty of decent spots within 10 a minutes hike.

^yup, beehives good for the immediate big sky area or try cooke city if you have a way to get there...usually a little more snow
