Back brace?

Skied with one a few days last season. For the specific injury I had it might've made things worse tbh but it's so specific to the user and their situation that advice from anyone other than your doctor or other qualified professional should be taken with a grain of salt. Do you have a spinal fracture? Do you mean back protector??

i would do whatever your doctor recommends and take it extra easy on the slopes. as your injury heals you should gradually stop skiing with the brace. you’re definitely gonna need to do some rehabilitation exercises and strength training to get full strength back esp if you tore multiple tendons. get a good physical therapist and do whatever they say.

If you’re referring to a lifting belt type brace, that would be a waste.

you want to find a good sports PT and have them build your strength up.

feel free to DM me

I ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS ski/ ride with a back brace/ protecter. It doesn't matter what I'm doing that day or even if I'm wearing a backpack. After a while its like a safety blanket and is just nice to have.

OP, brace or protector? Probably nobody on here is a doctor and qualified to give medical advice, but if you were my homie, I’d say to just not ski until you’re fully healed. Something like a brace while skiing is going to

a) weaken your core muscles that you would otherwise use, and

b) limit a natural range of motion that you need to safely control yourself.

Both of those can potentially fuck you up and put you out for even longer.

Basically this. fwiw I’ve seldom had a physical therapist telling me to hit THEM up.

Nobody does it but it's not corny and seeing what happens to people with spine injuries I'd recommend it

My b I was confusing brace with protector. Don't ski with a fucked up back if you slam you'll wind up like my dad

If ur rockin one ur kind of a bitch but ig I can see the benefit. Just know you’re bitch made tho…

Not wanting to be crippled isn’t really being “bitch made”

I have one that I bought at the beginning of last season, haven’t used it yet. Heard mixed reviews about them being uncomfortable/stuff and making your body more rigid, which can lead to worse injuries. At the end of the day skiing within and slightly above your abilities is probably the safest thing you can do to prevent injuries.

If I’m completely sending in rocky terrain or on icey snow then yes. I also fractured my T12 so take that into consideration

How tf did that happen OP?

Playing baseball. To this day I don’t understand why cause I had stretched, but just took a swing and heard a wrenching noise then a ton of pain.

Thank you. I will definitely be looking into this and I’ve already started looking in my area for someone

I have a nice POC one and its comfortable and doesn't really effect my mobility at all. I think its nice for freeride in rocky terrain where 99% of backslaps are in nice soft powder but there is always a chance of a hidden rock that could end you. For park and all-mountain skiing I don't think its as big of a deal

i totally thought that skiing with a back protector was for pussies and then i realized that back injuries are as serious as head injuries. i needed one for ifsa comps. it's a sweet protection, i got used to it and it kept me warm. coincidentally on the first day i used it (i believe) i fell in a chute and my back slid into a tree, i wouldn't have gotten 'hurt' but it at least prevented a bruise probably. lol.
