weld or build supports for it. you could dig it in the ground and make a stair/urban set up. good find.

post some pictures when your done with the set up.

Drill a hole through the legs of the rail (same size hole in both) then buy some more steel the the legs either can slide into or the steel supports can slide into the legs. then drill holes in them( same size as the rails legs) put the steel supports in the ground and the rail on top of them and line up the holes and put a pin through it and BOOM a sturdy rail

no, sadly im not a welder ur plan sounds pretty legit i just hope i have a strong enough drill. and my setup is going to be sweet. im gonna drop down off of my shed and then i have another flat pvc rail, a downflatdown pvc rail, and a pvc box up and coming. cant wait till the snow starts fallin

get cement, fil 2 buckets with cement and put your rail in the bucket, let it harden out, take it out of the bucket, dig it into the ground and shred it !
other option: fill garbage bag with cement and tie around the leggs, then proceed similar....

put horizontal support on the supports, then put it in the ground with the horizontal on the floor of the hole so it stays in place. So the horizontal pieces on the bottom of the rail would be underground, and the vertical pieces would be above ground.

ya a_pla5tic_bag ur right but i dont know how to attach horizontal supports because im not a welder, thats whats stopped me from doing that, but ultimately thats probably gonna be the way i go. other suggestions would be great guys thanks!

If it were me I would burry it on a gentle slope and make it an urban style down rail. BTW who can spell burry for me, I just had a brain fart

this is a great idea and cheap way to get good supports!
or what jsmith018 said a few posts earlier, put the legs in the snow surround them with snow and pour water around the legs and keep doing this till its solid. of course give it time to freeze up this is what we did with my buddies rail and it worked great!have fun and post pics of your set up. by the way good find that rail looks legit as hell!!

thanks guys the cement idea is growin on me i might have to try this, would i bury the bucket in the ground too? maybe i could also do a combo oof the ideas and freeze the cement blocks into the ground! haha

To make it more portable, get a steel bucket with a sturdy handle. Then bury it once it's set. And I'm pretty sure freezing cement makes it crack, I could be wrong though.

you can buy cardboard tubes that are made for filling with concrete to create support posts. check with any local hardware store

idk know how u should put it in the ground but i fuckin lol'ed soo loud when i read that the thing was "laying around at the supermarket" and you just took it withou any fuckin thoughts! that made my dad, fuck the owner of that thing and session the crap out of it'!

my brother and my friend had a similar hand rail and they dug three holes and cemented the rail into the ground. I havent hit it yet but i've heard it works great.

a little off topic but was it used or unused? did u talk to the store? cuz if u stole it and the cops saw it you might be fucked...

Take it to a local welder/machine shop and have them add flat feet on it.

Don't mess with digging, you would need to go at least a foot deep for it to be sturdy.

welding will be pricey, this would probably work:

kind of hard to explain, get some 2 by 4's cut them into maybe 1 and a half or 2 foot sections, drill maybe 3 or 4 holes in two of the pieces in the same places, clamp the two pieces together on the middle part of the rail, slide carriage bolts through the holes you drilled, make them tight as fuck, you now would have a simple wood piece to frame supports out from.

how the hell do you just "take" a rail that big without anybody noticing it. also isnt that thing heavy as fuck?

if you want to make it stable you dont really need a welder, depending on what kind of metal it is you could probably just use self tapping metal screws and screw metal to the bottom...

yea there called sonotubes, can get them at home depot or lowes or wherever but from the pic it looks like the legs are only a few inches long. if you could find some metal poles to slide into the feet (you wouldnt need to weld but the snugger the better) and buy some sonotubes and mix w/ crete, i think that would work. it would totally be permant though.

this is what I would do
Show them a pic and ask if they can help you. They'd probably weld something to the bottom and fix u up in no time.

Bring it back to the supermarket. Carry it through the store to the costomer service desk and tell them you want to return your purchase because it didn't come with propper supports.

no but seriusly nice find!!! i wish i had it

OH MY GOD, Me and my friends found a bunch of old sides to a Grocery cart return area, There Circular and would be perfect rails, they're old and just lying around in the back of the store, they should let us take em off their hands.

if the stands are hollow, you can find wood that will fit into the stands and then build horizontal supports for it and either bury them in dirt or snow when you have it. that is a SICKf find

yeah thats what i was gonna say. i would dig holes though and put your new legs down into them along with as much of the metel as you can the fill them with concrete...should be super solid

similar to what others have said, but use brackets and 4x4. cheaper materials, easier to construct. ~48" 4x4 will do for each leg [get 8 footer cut in half]. go perpendicular and facing out from vertical legs. hardest part will be 6 drilled holes in steel legs. you should be able to find sturdy brackets with 2 or more holes preset at the hardware store. i would use 1/2" hardware as well.
easier to draw than type. thats what i would do. cheers.
