"Avid brought the troops together to emphasize its commitment to the professional market, hammering home that their focus is us: the editors. It was good to hear at a time when some industry people and businesses are feeling abandoned after the release of FCP X. "

"Avid reiterated that they are not sacrificing features, and the interface will be able to look like previous versions if you do not like the change."

Avid is trying to take over the market! THANK GOD!!!

Cant wait for this 64 bit Avid to come out. I cant stand Premier and I know I am not alone there.

This might be the time when everyone switches back to Avid (if they have not already), and Avid is trying their best to be friendly to the FCP users. They even offer free training for people making the switch. I think they call it, "Avid for Final Cut Pro Users."

So stoked for this.

For those of you that do not know, Avid is a $2300 program, but is only $300 for students that comes with 4 years of upgrades!

The new UI looks great and Mac friendly too!

I checked my specs with Avid DS and my computer isn't even close to powerful enough. You need like 12GB of ram just to run it.

Thats what im sayin, if im using a computer with 12 Gigs i might as well me running the entire adobe suite at once along with like 3 different virtual machines and a fucking hubble telescope wirelessly thethered shooting 100000 fps

Hahaha, not talking about Avid DS.

Thats something different.

Avid Media Composer is what I am talking about. Media Composer is just like FCP pretty much (I may actually like it a little more) and thats whats being upgraded to 64 bit and support R3D, over 4k, no loss of features, new UI, ect ect.

This is the current media composer, http://www.avid.com/US/products/family/Media-Composer

You only need 4 gigs of RAM

No point in using Adobe Suit when you could use Avid DS with that much. Avid DS >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Premier... Okay, I have never used DS, but if MC is >>>>Premier then its safe to assume DS blows it away (which is should based on price).

I think DS is kind of just like everything built into one and meant for major production companies. Im not entirely sure since I dont know anything about it really.

Oh welll when they say media composer it makes me think of quido editing only for some reason, maybe ill torrent it. who knows. if it's an alternative to FCP for windows then i probably will, but i need to get my other worflow issues sorted out first

When I first looked into Avid, I thought the same thing when I saw Media Composer listed on their site.

Its for Windows and Mac. Avid DNxHD is a pretty legit format too.

I remember seeing something about Avid a couple years ago, it's big and burly and as of right now I believe it's the best editing program you can have. I have a friend who majored in all that (Video production and shit) and he said they usually used FCP, but if they used the schools beefed up computers they would use Avid because it was more advanced. He told me when he interned in L.A. all the major editors used it. I guess he worked with some low class guys, but they knew their way around and Avid is like the software you would use to make a movie like Transformers or Harry Potter.

At school we use about 70% Avid and 30% FCP. I used to be all about FCP until getting introduced to Avid at school. Its a great program, that is fast and very organized. I really want to get deep into it and start using it 100% of the time as it is industry standard. Glad to see a new Media Composer out and hopefully I can use it next year.

I laughed pretty hard that this. good humour. but i am currently going through the same troubles. trying to figure out what platform i want to run between premiere, fcp and avid.

12 gigs isn't ridiculous for x64. In a couple years it will be standard for most computers.

plus you can get 16 gb for like 200 bucks

yeah, you're right. its gonnna be 8gb in the next year or so, only two like a two years for it to go from 2gb to 4gb. but, 12gb isn't needed really...

Alright so it turns out, the layout of this program...needless to say, is shitty as fuck. the windows dont snap so theyre constantly overlapping eachother floating around, they also dont move, so you have to resize them by dragging to move them.

You can move them around and create your own layout. Its a little bit of a bitch to get, but once you get it, its fine. Takes a little to get used to that.

Thats the one thing they are focused on with their new program (that isnt out yet), is being more Mac friendly and easier to make custom layouts.

This software isnt really a good place for me to learn. I'm still trying to figure out codecs and perfect my workflow.

It'd be sick if you could like record your worflow with like camstudio or something using a certain software because everything i find is FCP centered. Nothing applies to me since im on win7.

I've had the worst time learning, I consider myself quite literate with computers to, but this whole thing is really complicated

I'm probably going to switch to this when it comes out, that is if FCP7 isn't still supported by apple or they dont make some serious changes to FCPX

It is definitely a steep learning curve to here.

If you need any help just hit me up. Im trying to learn it as well, but could easily help with workflow stuff.

Ouchh really!? It would have been awesome to hear some info from on the inside. Does he still know anyone that works there? If so, does he/she know when MC 64 bit is going to drop!?

I feel like Avid is about to take/take back the FCP clients.

I got to mess around with media composer last year at avid. My mom works there (and no... imactualy 20) maybee it was this version in the workings, I dont know but it looked too pc to me. I need to get used to the interface but Im thinking of making the jump and just leaving final cut balls in the trash where it belongs! It would be great If a good portion of the editing comunity did this.

I honestly feel like we have been trolled by apple and im waiting for a rick roll song to go on every time I hear about that program. its fucking bullshit!

I can try and get some info. He's still pretty close friends with some of the guys so I'll talk about it with him. He got me MC 5 for free with an HP something or other (used to edit all the olympic hockey footage on /claim) and it was sick! Im stoked to see what this new software is like. I have some other juicy info but I have to ask to see if I can tell because i don't know if its public info yet.

And yes, with what they are son dropping, fcp will bow down to media composer for good.
