Avalanche classes in SLC?

I live in SLC and I'm looking to take an avy class. I don't really know too much about them and my mom said she would pay for it. Anyone got any suggestions? and no, i dont go to the u

someone last year had like an under 25 avy 1 class or something like that for in the $150 range or so. might've been white pine touring or something. i took utah mountain adventures, it was fine. probably go for an avy 2 this year, but check someone else out.

yeah there are some free classes out there but they aren't real 2 day avy 1 certifications, which in my opinion are even a little lacking.

There is an avy class at the U. It does not get you certified, but you have the same training equivalent as a level 2 certification.
It's a short class, the instructor is definitely a stereotypical "mountain men" but the he knew his shit.
It's pretty fun too, but because the class is short you have to do a lot of semi heavy reading about the science behind avalanches.
