Autumn foliage film comparing east & west

now that its Nov 1 I know the leaf peeping craze has passed but I want to share this short film I put together last month, for critique, discussion, or to just simply watch & enjoy

I started in CO on September 17th, filmed two weeks, then did another ~two weeks in NH/VT, never quite hitting peak foliage unfortunately. Despite the weird colors this year, I'm super proud of what I was able to capture and I hope you appreciate the time and effort, let me know if you recognize any of the spots!

Everything from the shot movement to the colors was really clean! Can definitely tell the time and effort put in to this, good job! Enjoyed watching it.
 
some great shots in there! liked the feel it brought.

My only critique is its a bit long to watch the whole thing, I feel making it shorter with just your favorite shots would make it easier to watch all the way through..... and the reds on the shot at 4:30 seemed blown out and was a little obvious.

thanks man, yeah I feel you on the length, it was tricky to whittle down a months worth of shots. I need to get better at emotionally detaching myself while editing and focusing on only using the very best of the best. 4:30 is a good example, it was underexposed yet I loved the shot. The inspire shots aren't raw/prores, only h.264s and I guess I pushed the grade too hard :(

definitely feel ya with detaching from the shots! I was talking to a photographer the other day and he was saying how its really important to hold yourself accountable for the quality of shots you release, i've been trying to work on that lately
 
brother what camera??? all these shots are absolutely beautiful. loved how you had a bunch of drone shots too they can really set a video apart.
 
This is so rad!! I always liked the Colorado September fall a little more just because it's a different color palette and is underrated. Really enjoyed this project, such a good mix.

thank you! yeah I love shooting with the drone but I also tried not to overdo it and get a lot of shots on the ground too for variety. I shot mostly using 45mm and 25mm lenses on the drone, which has a 90mm and 50mm ff equivalent view, which I think helps set it apart because 95% of drone footage is wide angle roughly 20-24mm. I really like the compressed look vs the typical wide stretch

on the ground I shot with sony A7Sii and A7Rii, the A7Sii with a canon 16-35 2.8ii on a Mōvi m5, which is my favorite combo. I got the canon over the sony due to cost and also the canon doesn't extend/retract when zooming in and out, which is perfect for balancing on a gimbal. The A7Rii was paired with a 70-200 2.8gm on a tripod, always in 4k APS-C crop mode so it doesn't pixel bin, which isn't an issue on the much lower res A7Sii sensor. I had a 6 stop ND filter on at all times to keep the shutter angle always at 180°, same with the drone

a few of the moving shots close up of the trees I sat on the trunk of a car and held my drone while someone else drove, so I could compress to 90mm vs the 35mm max on the mōvi rig. A drone works surprisingly well as a quick and easy gimbal if you just walk with it instead of flying, and either someone else can control the camera or you can lock it to a specific direction

yes! I grew up on the east so I've always loved and grew used to the nice mix of colors and classic New England charm. Moving west and experiencing yellow taking over rugged mountainsides was incredible to see how different autumn can be. Chasing the excitement of the first snowfalls of the season is fun and some awesome contrast with full aspen trees covered in snow
