Ayyyo. So listenin to NPR on the way to the mountain. Shits gettin fucked up in Ausiland. Brisbane is being evacuated but sooo many people are sticking around. Sposed to be their biggest flood since 1974 and prolly gonna be worse. Rolling through thursday with flooding.

My brother is down there right now, I havent talked to him in like 2 weeks but last time I did he said they had gotten six inches of rain that day. Shit is fucking nuts.

video of the flood destroying cars

i love the guy at 1:13 saving his rig...i would do the exact same

oo fail..i was wondering how long it would take for someone to say he was letting the air out

not suprised because most kids on this website werent even alive when they still had manually locking hubs on vehicles..

he's not letting the air out of his tires, thats how he gets in 4-wheel drive

its a damn good time to be in the insurance business. theyre gonna be working overtime in this one for months.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aside from the droves of people coming to buy insurance, wouldn't it be a terrible time to be in the insurance business? Cause all of those people will be filing claims and the companies will lose all that money.....unless you were being sarcastic.

Haha I saw this coming aswell.

I would have been pissed if that was my black subie that floated down just after he got his truck out.

Yes - it would be a terrible time to be in the insurance business....

Not quite sure he get's the concept of how insurance companies make money.... but one things for sure - this will be costing billions..... .

Crazy. But remember that floods like this are commonplace in many third world countries and usually no one even bats an eye.

Fuck man i live there but right now i am in breck

They have cut the power to the city and everyone is bailing from their houses

I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy here. While I hope no one gets bit by an alligator or a taipan, your statement is not very smart. It seems like you're implying that only us mighty powerful countries with plentiful abundance of goods and healthy trade organizations should be cared about when disaster strikes and then it's - can you guess it - a big fucking deal all of a sudden.

Yeah, fuck those third world countries.

thank you mr high and mighty

maybe nobody blinks an eye because like you said these floods are common occurrences in third world countries. remember haiti? or thailand? or all the money getting uselessly thrown into africa? dont try and say developed countries dont help third world countries just because every resource available isn't put into every disaster that happens.

fuck up cunt

you know what your great country the USA is so fucked now your economy is shit thank bush and obama and those greedy fucking bankers because your country is sooo screwed

enjoy having no free public health or anything because guess what in australia we do!!!

so you think australia is a third world country

then eat a fucking dick because wait a couple of years of maybe months and see what your country turns into

ozz cunts

God is finally smiting this criminal paradise. May his wrath bring many a double rainbow and cleanse that hellish land.

I live in brisbane... the CBD is under water and streets around my place are completely flooded... goin' looting now! hehhh

yeah its really messed up. im here in victoria where the flooding isnt as bad...there are a few towns going under but not any major cities. parts of melbourne got flooded back in january 2004 but it wasn't that bad. if you want some sort of idea of how much land is under water in queensland have a look at australia on google maps. an area twice the size of the state of victoria within QLD is covered.
there's pretty much 24 hour news coverage of it because they're nowhere near a clean up yet. the water is still rising. the dam built to catch the water and protect Brisbane filled up too quickly (a lot of environmentalists wouldn't let them build other dams to help control the flow of future floods) so now they have to release that water into the already swollen city. there's a big ship there on the river that they're talking about sinking so it doesn't break free and end up sitting in the middle of the central business district.
on the news earlier they had footage of an animal shelter being evacuated and people carrying all the animals out about 6 to a cage to save them. then they switched to footage of one of the relief centres where people have gone who had to leave their homes. for the first time in a few years i got a fairly big lump in my throat.
the big problem is that all the infrastructure is shot to shit. roads have just been lifted up and the bitumen has been dumped everywhere. as you've seen in the videos cars are floating down rivers. a lot of the houses that get inundated have to be destroyed afterwards because the frames rot after they get that wet and it becomes structurally unsound. they had to cut power to brisbane's central business district to make sure no one gets electrocuted as the water rises. most of the power poles near rivers and streams have been knocked over so the grid is shot and will take years to rebuild.
i couldn't ask for money for them...i dont even live up there. but if you felt like giving $5 or something small that could help feed one of the families for an extra day the best website is this:http://www.qld.gov.au/floods/donate.html

once the payouts get to a certain point the insurance companies claim on their own insurance. its sort of like paying an excess on a massive scale. in effect all the insurance companies back each other up, domestically and internationally. its part of the reason its so stupid for obama to force insurance companies to offer cover to people who cant afford it but i wont go into that right now. long story cut short, they have mechanisms to deal with this sort of stuff.

this is so sad... i hope there is a lot of outpouring to you guys.... id come help out. but im about 5000 miles away. and well...... i could if i wanted to.. but i dont know if there gonna be taking outside help yet.

but my prayers are with you.

not quite dude....its not flooding here. but why is australia suddenly a criminal paradise? and why do australian's deserve to drown?

Australia was settled over 100 years ago we're not all convicts now, we're pretty much a civilized country... pretty much. We'll be fine, this is Australia, if it's not bush fires, its floods or droughts. Plus I'm here right now and it seems like a normal sunny day, a part from all the blocked roads and the sand bags. Brisbane is a lot better to be in for the floods than to be out in one of the rural towns thats been absolutely wrecked and didn't have any warning time to prepare. Families being drowned and trapped in cars and houses, parents dying to save their children isn't particularly funny.
Hope you don't find ya'self down here in Australia where we will machete ya' and take the three bucks in ya' pocket for being a British Colonialist son of a ditch. just joking but yeah.
