Australian Ski Fields

I am currently in Australia for the winter season and I'm looking to spend a while out in the ski fields, so where is the best value for money? (accommodation and lift pass) and has a good progressive terrain park? and anything about job potential or any other gabber about skiing in Australia would be appreciated!

Cheers

Get a job for one of the resorts so you don't have to buy a pass. They're ridiculously expensive short term, and still expensive long term if you don't get the early season deals.

Jindabyne is a cool place to live and you can work for either Thredbo or Perisher. I worked Thredbo last year and lived in staff accom in Jindy. Perisher apparently has the better park, but I never made it over for night riding.

I would recommend Thredbo or Perisher in New South Wales.

In my opinion Thredbo is a better mountain but riding park is probably better at Perisher.

If you search around in Jindabyne (most popular town to stay in if skiing in NSW), or look on gumtree.com.au you should be able to find a job somewhere.

Just hoping that we get some proper snow soon!

what do you recon' to the skiing in Victoria, I'm just in Melbourne at the moment so its a bit more convenient, mt buller looks a little under rated, saying that so is skiing in Australia!most resorts seemed to have shut the gate on jobs working directly for them as well so I will probably have to go sub-alpine!

I'm currently at Mt Hotham waiting for the mountain to open (hopefully this weekend) and its a pretty rad place i've gotta say. I'm park crew here and hoping to build a much better park than they've had in the past...we have a really dedicated crew. Saying that though Falls Creek will defs have better jumps, and Perisher from what i know has the best park in Aus. Getting a job working for the resorts will be the cheapest way, resorts are fudgin expensive here, Victorian resorts should open real soon and more jobs will be available

Mt Hotham is whats up ... And Falls Creek has the best park in Australia... its shaped by the mammoth shapers.. and the park is world class by the end of Aug around the time they host Stylewars ( A TTR snowboard slopestyle and photo shoot) but word of advice .. don't go skiing till August...till then just go surf.. trust me..

Perisher's park will get even better this year. They've poached Charles Beckinsale from Thredbo - he's the guy that does Whistler (and built the jump for the Whistler shoot in Superheroes of Stoke, among others)

ski fields so far have received shockingly minimal amounts of snow.

if you arent looking for a job, fly over to new zealand. it will probably work out to be slightly cheaper, and it the snow will be atleast 50x better. theyve just had 160cms in 24 hours and still going.

Im currently in melbourne but im not tied to anywhere. I would preferably work in the mountains as its best way to get out there! just keep running into dead ends with getting jobs!

my only other option is to work for a couple of months and then save enough dollars to shred for a couple of weeks!

cheers :)

I don't what your finances are like at the moment but I know of some cheap trips running I will message you about. Could be a good way to go because it would be going up in a group of 40 so you meet people and get group discounts.

From Melbourne the easiest to get to is Buller. It's a 3 hour drive if you have a car or you can catch a bus right to the top of the mountain.

Work wise I'm not sure which mountains are still hiring. I know Buller and Hotham have already hired all their lift operations and ski instructor staff. But you might be able to find some other mountain jobs.

A low down on all the mountains.

Thredbo is probably the best all around mountain.

Perisher has the best park.

Buller is probably the best all around mountain after Thredbo. Decent park and decent terrain. But if you're going you'd want someone who skis there regularly as the best terrain isn't well marked.

Falls Creek is flat but has a good park usually by the middle of the season.

Hotham has decent skiing but a shitty park. Again you'd want someone who skis regularly to show you around, I didn't like it there until I had some locals show me around.

Baw Baw has a decent park but it's tiny.

As you are in Melbourne I would suggest one of the Victorian mountains so Mt Buller, Mt Hotham, Falls Creek or Mt Baw baw.

I live in Melbourne too so feel free to hit me up if you have any questions.

sweet id love to jump on a trip like that, dont really know many people so that would be great!

there defiantly isnt a rock i havnt looked under for a job in resort or sub alpine unless i actually go to those places.

Mt buller seems to be the best overall for victoria!

just looking around st kilda for jobs and flat sharing at the moment, you wouldnt happen to know of anywhere?

thanks for your help :)
