Audiophiles?

Anyone here an audiophile? Its the only thing I really get nerdy about, but its all about the best the music can sound. I've got audio-technica ath-a700s to an ldm+ amp and an ipod with lossless albums on it. it sounds so good.

i would be if i had more money. I used to have AKG 151's which were beautiful headphones but a piece of shit stole them from me and im bummin real hard. I'm building a new computer and throwing in a creative sound blaster x-fi elite pro sound card, im really pumped about it.

i'm the type of person that would rather not listen to music than listen to it shitty quality, or shitty sound quality, but that's about it.

I don't care if something isn't hi fi...music's about the expression. i can listen to jeff beck or miles davis or something on my 30 dollar computer speakers or my ipod headphones and be completely blown away.

i used to be that way then i started listening to cd's off my tuner with good headphones and was really blown away. especially classical music, you can hear every instrument. and with jazz you can hear every sound, even the pads of the saxophones clicking, its truly magical.

Im starting up my own record collection, and am buying a turntable soon, just wondering what kind of suggestions anyone might have for a decent turntable, amp, speaker set up?

I've got a pretty kickass Fischer Tuner & 150w amp hooked up to my computer. Nice solid state tech from the 80's, and a decent set of no-name bookshelf speakers which I'd like to upgrade in the future. Also looking to pick up a table, but idk if I want to start a vinyl collection because I can just see myself spending WAY too much money on it.

I keep all my MP3's at 320k VBR, because I couldn't tell the difference between that and FLAC on a $10k audio system.

And for headphones, much to my own surprise given how much I hate EVERY other set of Skullcandy phones/buds for being absolute pieces of shit when it comes to audio quality, I have a pair of the 'candy SK PRO headphones, which blew me away when I got them. They're not quite Grado sound quality by any means, and they're a little thin in the mids, but overall for most styles of music, and especially for electronic music with a beat, they're great.

You means V0 mp3 ? ... 320 is always CBR ... the highest quality vbr preset you can get on the LAME encoder has a target bitrate around 256 (v0 is still better than 256 cbr)

Sound quality matters for me only if I can hear the difference, or if I have to play the song on a big hi-fi soundsystem (mainly for DJing purposes) ... I always end up getting 320s or v0's though ... lossless ain't worth it ... unless you wanna play with the audio file (sample, remix, etc.)

yeah when I DJ or work with audio samples they gotta be 320s, if you DJ live with 192 you deserve to be shot in the face.

as for headphones i bought a pair of akg k81dj. not exactly audiophile headphones but they sound great and thats what head-fi.org told me to get.

if you dj in a small venue, 192 cbr can be ok ... by small venue I mean house party

pros (erol alkan, boys noize, etc.) use lossless format ... but they DJs in stadiums and such

no sound system can compete with playing in a band live, it's quite a rush. (not that anyone was making that claim).

i guess, im not super anal about it though, i have a nice 70's reciever with some decent speakers and a nice turntable.but im good with listening to music on my laptop speakers and stuff still.

I am a bit of one. I have at the moment about 4k in stereo gear and about 2k in tv and ps3 shit. I have a Rotel RMB 1075 5x120 watt high current amp mated to a Rotel RSP 1069 Preamp. My speakers at the moment are JBL e90's with dual 8's in them but when I move out my dad is giving me his Infinity Kappa 7 Series 2 speakers which are crazy nice. I am looking to get a second amp soon to add for the mains , just the 200 watt 2 channel version of the amp I have, the Rotel RMB 1080. It sounds amazing when I am playing Blu Ray movies through the PS3 because my Preamp can decode the HD audio from bluray discs which sounds fucking unreal. I also have mounted to the ceiling a pull down projector screen, and my projector can take high def inputs so I can play ps3 or watch tv in hd with either my 50" sony or the projector. Pretty sick when its movie time for sure.

sure you can use 192, but you kinda have to respect the artist and try to get 320s because playing 192s can sound like junk when compared to 320 at loud volumes.

Yeah I think I mean V0. I just checked and most of the stuff I thought was VBR is actually just straight 320...... I have higher quality, oops! haha. Always a good surprise.
