Audio editing software?

What's a legit audio editing software? I lost a lot of my music library and I figured I'd start screwing around with mashups and shit instead of downloading everything. So what do you guys use/recommend?

i use Torq, PCDJ Red is also good, but are you looking to cue from earphones when mixing? i use the Torq Conectiv, acts like an external sound card or audio interface allowing you to do so,

peace

For Mashups and just about anything else Ableton Live is the way to go.Its an amazing easy to use all in one software.

Soundtrack Pro if you're on mac, or have access. Not the most user friendly, but you can do so much with it

sorry to kinda threadjack but i have a mac and im trying to download one of them, but, when starting to download say, can find the source or whatever, its a dmg file and i don't know how to open it. it just is a blank file if i can't find something to open it with. full karma to anyone who helps

ABLETON. /end thread.
for mashups, nothing better. nothing. especially if you want to perform live and pick up the new akai controller dropping at the end of the month.

audacity is the best free audio editor period. but you can also pirate a shit load of software thats waaaaayyy better. get adobe audition or acid. if you wanna take it serious get logic, ableton, protools, whatever. all these things are technically free, except protools which needs hardware.
