Audi white smoke

Accelerating onto a 50mph my 05 a4 2.0t left a big puff of white smoke and had a burning smell. It has 170k miles and I believe the turbo is still from the dealer so is it blown? Head gasket? Oil related? And there was a grinding gross sound up to about 10 mph
 
you could've blown the muffler bearings which would have cause the burning smell. also check if the blinker fluid is low.
 
figure out when your last oil change was, figure out if you've had regular oil changes, figure out how many miles your car has on it ect.

It's probably the head gasket from the sounds of it,

white smoke generally = coolant = headgasket

if you have a cracked head and have continued driving on it, you very well could have fucked the entire turbo set up as well.

Most likely not turbo then. You would no imedieatly, and the car would run and sound really fucked, check your oil and all your lines, clamps and gaskets like kayngbayng said.
 
White smoke could be coolant. Go stick a paper towel in the exhaust and, rev it up and see what got on the towel. If it looks like coolant then... well...that sucks. You could also go the less redneck way and just pressure test the system.
 
Sounds like a normal turbo car to me.

At WOT, most turbo cars run rich, dumping fuel into the cylinders which can cause a puff of gray/black smoke. Are you sure it was white?

It could also mean failing turbo seals.

High pressure scenarios will push oil past your seals causing the oil to hit the super heated exhaust. And what happens when oil hits a super heated surface? Smoke.

If your turbo truly is stock at 170k, I am AMAZED that thing still spins...

What year is your A4?

Few things to note.

Burning coolant smells sweet like pancakes and syrups. Burning coolant will always be THICK white smoke.

Gray hazy/black smoke is your car burning rich which is usually normally at WOT in turbo cars to some extent.

Gray/White smoke is usually oil. You'll know what burning oil smells like.
 
shit, i have an 08 a4 2.0t, have 92,000 on it, just did the timing belt waterpump, and got my cam follower replaced for the 2nd time. Apparently the cam follower is something many owners overlook and they suggest every 40k to replace it. Iwork right next to this place called KMD tuning and engineering (New jersey) and they also hook me up. (this had nothing to do with your post, i just thought id add my 2 cents)
 
White smoke usually means antifreeze/ coolant has entered one or more of the cylinders. The head gasket is usually the culprit. Check your coolant levels and ensure that it hasn't mixed with your oil. When you remove the radiator cap, which in an Audi may require a ceremonial dance and sacrifice of a virgin, see if the coolant looks brown and looks like chocolate milk. Burning coolant smells like burnt maple syrup and is very distinctive.

Blue smoke= burning oil, which smells much more like generic burning as opposed to the burnt sugar smell of antifreeze. Blown rings or valve guide seals which can cause rough starts (maybe your grinding nasty noise?)

Black smoke= burning too much fuel or running rich. Your injectors could be leaking perhaps?
