I don't think it's a big deal weather someone calls it mute or auclair, but I do think it's dope to give some respect to JP. Call it what you like.

yeah honestly calling it an auclair grab is dank, no one did it better than JP. More relevant to skiing anyway tbh it's not like skateboarders grab safety or blunt anyway right? (could be wrong here been many years since i've played thps2)

I like the idea of honouring JP but I can't undo years of calling it a mute grab. I might make an exception and call it an Auclair grab if I see if done in a backflip on Salomon 1080s.

It doesn't really matter but for now most people call it mute so I'm gonna call it mute just so people know what I'm talking about

Why not call it a 'JP grab'? Auclair doesn't really roll off the tongue...

I'll call it the Auclair. It's pretty sick. It'll be a habit to break, but it seems weird to be so attached to the word "mute" that we disregard how the guy who it was originally named for feels about it.

Here’s the wild thing - it’s actually not that hard to change the language you used for years. What’s clearly hard for a lot of people is admitting *why* you would change it.

Could be done but not for the mute grab, it would be bad since it’s

the most common grab in every action sport. The indy grab has changed for safety grab already, it’s enough. Find some other trick to honnor him. Could be the backflip mute instead?

Regardless of the reasoning behind changing the name, “Auclair” sounds way better than “Mute” in my opinion. “Double Cork 10 Auclair”, Rodeo 5 Auclair”.? Also calling it the “Auclair” honors JP which I like a lot.

It sounds like there’s solid reasoning behind changing the name, so might as well.

The skate community changed the name

to the “Weddler Grab” to honor Chris

Weddle who the trick was named after. The skiing mute grab is nothing like the skateboarding mute grab, so might as well call it something different.

While we're at it can we change the name of the buick grab? Hundreds die each year at the hands of old people driving buicks. It honestly seems insensitive to call it that.

I’d call it the Auclair grab if more people knew what I was talking about

Changing the name of the grab is so unnecessary like who the fuck cares its literally ski tricks. The reason why tricks have names is so that you can communicate what trick someone did, its supposed to be named something that everyone agrees on to avoid confusion. Like I get it, JP was a legend and his death was tragic but if you think that justifies changing the name of the most popular grab in skiing you’re worried about the wrong shit in life

If you call the backie mute an auclair that seems far more reasonable. Its like calling a fs flip on a skate a muska flip (when u do them a certain way). But skaters don’t just call kickflips muskas cuz he was good at them, that would be nonsense

Malcolm, are you going to be like Tony Hawk and change the name of the grab in your respective game?
