Attaching soles to the bottom of ski boots

I read about this years ago in a Powder magazine where they took a normal alpine boot and glued a vibram sole to the bottom, ( for hiking and what not)

AT boots are way to expensive and I like my full tilts too much

has anyone ever done this before

There's something about this on tgr. Be careful with your bindings later. There's a lot more friction between vibram and your afd than with the plastic. I'll post up the link.

canting the soles of ski boots or adding shims is common for hi end racers - but the toe has to be ground down to fit the DIN standard size for the binding (toe height max & set 'square'). This maintains the safety of the release. And of course use enough stainless steel screws.

I haven't heard any physics or science on the grippy vibram sole other than posts that it works OK with the sliding afd's. I would suggest an inital test period and maybe turn the DIN down a notch.

chk if your binding is autofit or if you have to do a toe height ajustment....if the vibram is softer you may have to tight it up to avoid any wobble. Good luck.

This year lange (and rossi) came out with vibram lugs on their free ride boots, Our shop bought a bunch and everyone, even those with out langes is putting them on their boots.

So you could probably get your shop to order a set for you and attach them,

Your shop would need to attach them, The current lugs need to be ground down first, and then have holes drilled for the new lugs. all to din standards.
