Atomic Blog

Hyello again, for those who noticed, I asked earlier to compare two skis (Moment Bibby vs. Surface One Life) ( https://www.newschoolers.com/web/forums/readthread/thread_id/493589/ ). It was some very helpful stuff. Thing is, I've done some thinking and consideration, I dont want a ski over 114mm in the waist. Not Quite versitile enough and I won't like it on a majority of the days. So I'm scratching the idea of purchasing the Bibbys @ 190, and looking for something else again.

(Copied from previous thread)

I'm looking for a ski that will survive my last season before I head out to school. I have twisted and warped my 183cm Blends last year and the season before I destroyed and blew apart my 181 Thugs. I am 6'2", around 170lbs. I live in Golden and ski Kicking Horse, so the ski is going to be everything, Big Mountain, Powder and just playing around of the drought days.

I'm heading out on plenty of road trips this year, so this ski will also take on the great abyss of different terrain.

This year I'm going with a rocker, I'm rather excited about it.

So I looked around kinda, and have stumbled across the Atomic Blogs. It has a better turning radius, not that big of a rocker (which I like), and most important of all, dimensions that will make me happy in everything. At 185, the dimensions are 134-110-126, with a turning radius of 19m.

I've look around NS and read what people say, not much to say. So I'm hoping this more detailed thread will bring some insight into this ski. I'm pretty sold on it right now.

Also, if there are any other similar skis (>114mm, rocker), I'd love to hear it. I've skied both the Salomon Czar AND Armada JJ, not really a fan of either.

Thank you

go for it. I skied the bentchetler and thought it was sick. Carved on soft groomed, did everything else well. I'm sure the blog is better on trail too. Altough I went with your much hated JJ ...lol, the blog should be dope.

I pm'd Timo, I love everything about the skis, I just don't know what the flex is like. Any one know if they're stiff? or soft? or in between?

I heard that the blog has kind of a dead feel and rally isn't too fun to ride unfortunately. I own the bent chetler and I really like them but I haven't personally skied the blog

good luck!

I can't help you directly, I've only fondled them and they seem a bit stiffer than the Bentchetler, less rockered and I think the mount is also further back.. I've only seen a few comments here and there about them, but hopefully it helps. These are user reviews i've seen about:

From Evogear:

Pros: Great Flotation, Lightweight, Scratch Resistant

Cons: Dull, Poor Ride

Not my favorite ski I got to demo in March of '09. Essentially a smaller Bent Chetler with a larger turn radius, not sure how that happened. The thing about the Blog is that it'll get you down the mountain just fine, without flying out from under you, however it just not as fun as some of the other skis on the market. Not enough pop for my taste. Maybe it was the way the I was positioned on the ski, but I felt uncomfortable riding backwards. The Blog is kind of like the internet, fun at first, but if you're on it too long it gets old real fast.

From Backcountry:

I usually ski on the Benchetlers, but sometimes I want something a little smaller that still ski like a bigger ski. These are your skis. Especially if you aren't the hugest person and want a nice 'do everything' ski like a Benchetler - these are your ski.

185 Atomic Blog- the daddy series is finally dead. The blog is Atomics answer to the S7 or the JJ. Significant camber under foot and rockered tip and tail. This ski is good, It is versatile and livley. At a 115 under foot it carves well. Has a Softish nose and a moderate tail. 7 out of 10.

Sorry if you've seen all this, thought it might help since you aren't getting much

blogs are stiffer than bents, not so much of a powder-specific tool, but they do by all means hold their own in deep snow, just a bit more accessible on other terrain (granted i managed to have a ball carving trenches on beltchetlers, it just takes a bit more effort to do).

they are a lot of fun in the deep snow, and a lot of fun getting to and from the snow. i dont know what youre looking for as far as jumping goes, but theyll work in the park a bit better than bentchetler or a similar rockered ski simply because of the more on-snow surface that they offer with the 10mm rocker.

they like to go straight, as im sure you have gathered from the sidecut, so they are a bit sluggish hopping around in tight trees, especially in the 185 length. however, if youre a strong skier, i dont think youll have any trouble muscling them through. i had a lot of fun skiing ec powder last season, which translates to skiing in tighter trees than one would normally be comfortable doing because were not good at preparing for dumps.

theyre a great ski, and offer a bit more traditional 'fat ski' than say the bentchetler, or the jp/j that you werent so into. the early taper is subtle, as is the rocker. enough to help out when you want it, but not so much to pigeonhole the ski into a specialty tool.

hope i could help you out!

I've never heard of anyone NOT liking the JJs. Bummer, because they're such a fun ski. Also kind of ironic seeing as it's somewhat similar to the Blog's dimentions.
Good luck though, they do look fun.

That does help actually, I've read the Evogear review, buddy there is an Attitudy Judy. The other reviews sounds good though. From overone elses point of view, it looks lively. Durschti's Part in EDIAS was amazing on those skis.

I found a discussion thread on TGR if anyone out there wants to read it. http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=168069

From the looks and likes of it. It's an amazing ski. Perfect for All Mountain.

That does help, thank you.

As for jumps, I don't ski park, so I have nothing to worry about there, the jumps I do ski are ones we build in bowls, and jumps off of cliffs. From what I've seen, the rocker that the Blog has is a good one, its not huge, but its noticable. At 185, it'll be easy to control.

I have been on the blogs since the beginning of this season and I have already taken them through all sorts of conditions. They absolutely railed on groomers and could blow through hardpack like nobodies business. I had a few turns in some deep snow and they were sooo fun. I am 5'9'', 135 lb and I could easily turn these things in tight trees at Winter Park. I even spun a few laps in the park and they could hold their own. I am more of a big mountain skier so these skis are perfect for me. But, I had a ton of fun just messing around in the early season with them. The camber under foot but rocker in the tip and tail make just cruzin around the mountain really enjoyable. My blogs aren' even center-mounted and I was landing switch with ease because of the rocker in the tail. LOVE THESE SKIS!

havent ridden them, but flexed them.

they are very stiff under foot, and failry soft like 10 inch before the tip and tails. feels a bit like butterzones.

My message exchange with him. since this thread has been bumped.

shutupandski$$ --> Durtschi

Hey

I know your a busy guy, wondering if you can take some time and answer some questions about the Atomic Blog?

I'm interested about it, but I'm shaky since I've snapped a pair of Thugs before. I'd get the 185's.

https://www.newschoolers.com/web/forums/readthread/thread_id/497814/

It's the thread I created for questions about it. Basically, I ski Kicking Horse, BC. So it has everything from cliffs, chutes, powder, to just normal jibbin. Done plenty of research and the Blog seems more versitile. To cut to the chase, I'm wondering what the flex is like? Soft being low on a scale, and 2x4 stiff being top of the scale.

Thanks man

Sincerely Mason.

Durtschi --> shutupandski$$

the bentchetler is bomber, its definately stronger than the thug, I broke a pair of thugs before, but I skied them like over 60 days. i love them for powder, they work in all conditions as well, i would get them!

I laughed quite a bit when I read this.

NOTHING WAS ANSWERED!!!

I never said anything anywhere about the Bentchetlers.

He never mentioned the Blog even.

Anyways. I'm still looking for skis.

Thank you for the help

the only 2 skis i ski on are Bentchetlers in a 184 for pow/all mountain and a 175 Blog for park.

take from that what you will but i love them. its insane how fast you can edge on a ski that size
