Atomic Automatic's

Picked up some Automatics, 109, 183 for $300, It was fairly impulsive, I wanted a ski for an all-round resort ski, so 50% skiing around the resort, 50% lapping the park. They're still in the wrappers, should I keep them?

I think what I'm most concerned about is use as a freestyle ski, I'm not too terribly picky but as a "partial twin" are these going to be sketchy landing switch on a 50 footer? I think when I read the comments "partial twin" I got concerned

In terms of being an exact Blog replacement, they're not. Yes the ski has tail rocker with a bit of a turned up tail, but it's definitely not a Bentchetler which would be the ideal ski for what you just described. They really are a slimmer/smaller version of the Automatic 117. They can definitely be used as a backcountry freestyle ski, but not the ideal choice if you plan to be landing switch a lot.

Here are some words of wisdom from Blister on the Automatic 109:

Thanks for beating me to linking that!

Yeah, I've not yet skied the Automatic 109 but just from looking at it/flexing it I'm always a little disappointed it's not more of a Blog replacement. I absolutely loved that ski. I still have my pair, even after I ripped out a mount and they fell off the top of two different cars on the highway.

Maybe it's just cause that was my first rockered ski ever but the Blog will always have a soft spot in my heart. My dream is that some day it comes back, in a 190, with better graphics, with the bentchetler tip and tail horizontal rocker.

Thanks for the info guys, I was actually hoping for something very similar to the blog, I am trying to replace my old watch life's (Trad. camber) with a rockered ski for around the resort that will see the park jumps regularily. I primarily use my Josh bibby's in the backcountry. I guess what I'm really looking for is more of a park ski that is rockered and can be used around the resort (blog). I'm pretty comfortable on my Bibby's in the park and am actually not too picky on park skis, just find them a little big/heavy/stiff for goofing around on

I've skied them, recommended them to a friend who bought some and absolutely loves them.

They are an awesome ski for general all-mountain skiing. Plenty of pop and liveliness for playing around on, not too heavy.

I never took them through the park but hit some reasonable sized natural features on them and they went well.

they are one of the best all around ery day west coast skis i can think of, but they suck for park. the swing weight is not built like a park ski they are really made for charging technical terrain. they are stiffer as well so i def would not keep them for lapping the park i really wouldnt take them in the park at all if they were my skis because thats not at all what the engineers had in mind for the automatic lineup as a whole
