i think god and jesus are real, but not the bible. im catholic and want to go to heaven, but i also think logical about things.
 
this guy is an asshole, why does he care if people believe in God, and you can take lessons from the bible, ive met priests that believe in evolution, and all of that stuff, it is a way of explaining God to peopleback then. Also, who is to say some of the stuff in the bible wasnt inspired by God, that maybe we got something wrong, but there is a lot of good stuff in there. And finaly, to the person who made this thread, go to hell, wait, nvm, just have a really shitty life because you are 100% sure that there is no afterlife, and you have full proof. Atheists always say proove there is a God, well Proove that there isnt, dont make proofs about evolution or anything, i want to see proof that there is no God.

i hate it when people start shit just to make arguements and now im all pissed off
 
Yeah, we should also prohibit the celebration of Christmas unless you've gone to church every Sunday. And they should also show documented proof that they've been there every Sunday for the entire year, because otherwise we'd get people faking it and just going in December so they can celebrate a great holiday. And if someone says you werent at church and had a friend stamp your timesheet, you should be labeled, marked and not allowed Christmas, because who would lie about something like that?

Come to think of it, we should also not allow non-christians to read and watch our beloved Christmas books and movies. I mean, its our holiday, right? We have control of it...

What makes you think christmas is a pure christian holiday? What has a fat guy in a sleigh to do with christ? Surely, christians think it's about the birth of Jesus, but that is just a part of it. Why do we celebrate that fat guy, and jews do ghanouka (or whatever).

Santa Clause has evolved from Saint Nicolas, a saint that in his time helped a lot of children, and therefore got the reputation of a friend of the children. He also had freed a slave from Turky in his lifetime, which followed him for the rest of his life. In our country we have a holiday with that guy and he still has a fleet of black guys who give out the presents.

So christians do not have the primairy right on christmas. Christmas are just a lot of holidays from different paradigms in the world which has evolved in it current state. There is even proof Jesus was born on a different day, but the dates were changed to comply with the Heithen holidays.

So why do americans ban christmas trees? this is just nuts.

I'm glad you don't believe 100% literally in the bible, but you still don't understand what's going on here.

Atheists (at least, the ones who aren't stupid) aren't going to try to "prove" that God doesn't exist. It can't be done because that's the nature of God (because God is supposedly a matter of faith and not proof), so stop stop STOP saying "well why don't you prove God doesn't exist" because that's NOT THE POINT.

Science is based in, on, and around THEORY- "a coherent group of general propositions used as principles of explanation for a class of phenomena."

In other words, NOWHERE DOES SCIENCE SAY GOD DOES NOT EXIST. WE JUST ASK YOU TO QUESTION WHY YOU BELIEVE HE DOES EXIST.

It seems to me if God exsists, then he made however many planets in the universe. I find it much more simpler to think that the big bang theory started the universe (which is a thoery based on evidence)
 
Yeah, but as soon as science was able to explain the formation of galaxies, stars, planets, and whatever, god scuttled back behind the big bang and now we still can't say for sure he didn't have anything to do with that.

This is the way it will always go. If you don't believe in God, you should do what I did and just forget about trying to disprove him because you will never convince anyone that way.
 
And knowing there posssibly isnt an afterlife makes me want to live my life to the fullest
 
Let me just say this...If you are an educated atheist, please answer/debate this. If you don't believe in God life is meaningless. If there is no God which there very well could be(I just choose to believe there is) then when you die everything simply ends. What you did in life doesn't matter because there is no where to carry one. So with that being said what do atheists live for/ want out of life?
 
I really don't get why you guys and everybody else in the world (with a small exception) can't just let people believe in what they want and you can believe in what you want. Just let people live, damn.

Hypothetically, if I were a god, I'd be pissed off if people were given a life on this earth, and then expect more from it, like heaven.

Just enjoy your life on this planet instead of hoping for something better. What if you die and come to the gates and your religion is the wrong one? I'd feel Pwnd.

Personally, if there is a heaven, and there is a good god, he will look at what kind of person you are in your hart, not because someone wants to go to heaven or get 7 virgins. Hence, also atheist have a chance :)
 
This whole thing assumes the bible is correct.

The bible has been translated so many times, and censored. EG. king james version of the bible (most popular) or the guttenburg edition (first printed) Its not even the same book, as it once was and its never been the same.

Not to mention the bible is a collection of books, all of which also had been translated from different dialects and shit.

Hah right now you could introduce a new bible and in 10 years noone would know the difference. Its all bullshit to keep the vatican rich.

jesus and god are not exclusive. they are part of the 'holy trinity' to make the spirit. but just because jesus existed and was a real man, doesnt mean he walked on water or did any of the things claimed.

proving jesus' existence will not prove god's existence.

im not the anti christ or anything im just trying to explain to you that jesus and god are not exclusive. god can exist if jesus didnt. jesus can exist if god didnt.
 
So god wrote the bible right? Why has it been written by human ink and not Godly ink (if it was really God that wrote the bible)? How could humans have known God if he is completly out of the sight of humans and know all the stories of his experience?How can God be so cruel in his biography? Why does the bible have no future refrences and predict the end of the world? Why are there other religions claiming that God is something else?

 
First of all, your initial assumption is wrong. Why should the existence of a supernatural and omnipotent being dictate whether or not my life has meaning? The way I see it is that yes, when you die, thats it, you're done. But existence is nice. I get to ski, meet cool people and experience a wide range of emotions, memories and senses. And I can also give my life meaning without a omnipotent being as well. Doing good things, getting good grades and being successful makes me feel happy and content. So yes, its completely possible for people to live 'outside of God' and still have meaningful lives in my view. Hell, you might say people under these pretenses may even get more out of life, since they develop and control their own sense of whats right or wrong and what makes them truly happy, instead of conforming to a community.
 
in the end if you think about if you belive in god and there is one no problem but if you dont you have a big problem. so if there is no god and you belive in one you have no problem you just wasted 1 hour every sunday every week of your life.
 
So its better to believe in something just because of the possible consequences of not believing in it? Can't I go and say that for just about anything though?

Say, if aliens were out there that had a plan to invade Earth and kill all the people who never believed in intelligent life outside of our solar system (for some reason), then only the believers would be saved. So, because this, however unlikely it seems is a possibility, and because there are some who believe aliens exist, shouldn't we all believe in aliens?

anyways, it bugs me how much atheists are so often shit starters. its one thing if they live life believing that there is no God, but its completely different when they are always trying to start conflict. do you go up to kids who believe in santa and say, hey you stupid peice of shit, santa isnt real, and i am much smarter and better than you for not believing. By the way, why are you offended when we believe in God, we arent doing what you do and bashing something you believe in, because you believe that their is nothing that is a greater power.

im sorry but there is so much negativity in this thread. just re-read it. so many angry people, and nothing provoking it. there was like two or three statements against the video and everyone else was just flipping out. stuff about "the vatican scams to make cash" and the word "bullshit" being repeated over and over.

if you are so big on being allowed to live how you want and not have to deal with the religion being "thrown in your face", dont make shit like this video. what does it accomplish? "omgz its so funny stupid religious people trying to find answers". let the religious have what they believe in. both sides want the same thing, why dont both sides chill out and realize that if they are happy with the answers they found and views in their lives, why do they feel the need to try and get on the opposing sides cases. so negative...both sides understand the other sides views, stop repeating it, there is no need.

 
sure religion does, but that is religion, not nessesarily faith in God. religion has had corrupt leaders, but for the most part, what it teaches is good, such as karma, the 10 commandments, do onto others as you want to have done to you, forgive. all of that stuff
