So I am going to be skiing Big sky Mt, Jackson Hole, and a couple trips to summit county this winter. I have a couple of park skis- old skogen pros and stls. I am trying to decide what I want to get for a ski to use on days that I will be

1. Hitting backcounty booters, jumps, and hucking cliffs(last year 10-15 feet, this probably higher)

2. Skiing fresh Pow, any where from a couple inches to the deep stuff.

3. skiing the better/steap terrain in and around the places I listed above.

I can ski anything inbounds aggressively at all the mountains in summit county.

I am about 160 pounds and between 5 11 and 6 foot.

The skis I am looking at are the Rossi S5 178 which is the same ski as last years Scratch BC Brigade, The line prophet 100s 179, Line bacons, P4s, blends, and Seths.

I am a little concerned if the S5s might be a bit soft, and if the p100s are a bit stiff for my liking. I don't know much about this years seths. I know if I get bacons I would want this years so they are stiffer and don't know if I want to spend that much. I have heard good things about the p4s but that is all I now about them as well. Any info that you think would help me would be great and if you feel like suggesting a different ski go ahead. Thanks and +k to anyone that helps.

I reckon go the seths. I have last years in a 179 (im' bout 5'8) and love them. Go the 189 if you charge, and mount then +4 or +5.

seriously, whatever you get, you won't be disappointed. There are so many sick skis out there right now.

jj or bibby if you want a hybrid chambered ski, maybe the rossi s6/scratch steeze if you want something traditionally chambered? light weight, medium flex, dope. i love my blends, but because of where you're skiing and what other skis you have, go wider, theres no drawback.

the s5 has a medium to stiff flex. it is not soft. not as stiff as the prophet 100 but still pretty beefy. i demoed that s5 in a 178 last year and it is a sick ski. that would be my top choice out of your choices there.

JJ's are a good ski...but the obsethed is really what you need. i have a pair and the flex is perfect, i think the JJ's are a little too specific

The bacons seem really appropriate, but so do the zeros.

Check them out if you haven't, they would probably be about perfect for what you're doing.

However, out of what you have there I would probably go Bacons, the are apparently really nimble, and I've heard nothing but good things.

As for the S5s, I heard that they were quite stiff, I'm getting them in 185, so if I ski them in the next week and this thread is still around I'll let you know how they were.

I am 5'10 160-170 lbs and have 171 Scratch BCs. They are siiiick skis, especially on ice, as in they have great hold and they float well too. I have heard the same about the Steeze ( S6 ) and the new S7. However, don't sell yourself short and get the 178. I feel slightly unstable at speed, so if I were buying these again I'd get the 185. Evogear has them for around $300.

Alternatively, you could go for the Steeze/S6/Raven which is basically the 110mm version, and is supposedly very similar skiing.

hellbents are excessive. yea they may be a great ski, but its so overkill. you dont need that, if you had something more versatile to fill the gap between stls and bents, yea it would make sense. if you want something rockered, seriously look jjs or bibbys. so much more versatlity and they still rule. if you watch reasons or massive, tanner, jp, julien all slay on jjs. they use them for everything, powder, bc jibbing, the only thing i didnt see was them using them in the park.

on the traditional chambered skis... s5s rule. i love my scatch bcs, theyre a medium to stiff flex, the plow through crud and crust, and still jibable.

s6s would be a bit more powder savvy and a bit softer, more float and look like an ideal bc kicker ski. blends are in a similar mold as the s5s, a bit softer in the tip and tail and more park friendly. the construction is super bomber and they have one of the best graphics in person imo.

bacons are soft. even the new ones, which are a tad stiffer, are still soft. they are retarded fun in almost any condition, and i have ever intention of riding them all season on the east coast, with no trepidation of using them in the park.

zeros might be clutch for you tho. center mounted, no chamber, 104 underfoot, awesome awesome bc jib stick that u can still use everywhere else. i finally grouped some and was very pleased (which is a major change because i havent been a fan of nordicas twins) and im looking forward to riding some.
