Assault Weapon Ban running out of time

The ban on assault rifles will be over early september of this year (around the 4th or something) and semiautomatic assault rifles (ak-47, m16, uzi, etc...) will be legal to purchase. This is courtesy of our fine president who is remaining silent on an issue that he once supported. Lets hope, that sometime before september, bush can pick up the phone, call congress and tell them to renew the ban.

please dont argue that with me just goto your local gunstore and ask the guy he'll tell you. the ban recently ran out on folding stocks and 50 round clips aswell. They just arnt allowed to import fully automatic weapons anymore but they can sell all the ones they already have and theres alot out there. Since they are limited in supply they are so expensive. The uzi I looked at was 3500$ (fully-auto)

Thank you J.D. Currently there is an import and manufacturing ban that will run out in september. but in order to protect the interests of gun dealers who already bought the guns before the ban ran out, they are legal for sale and there are millions of them out there. I was looking at DvD's in my local pawnshop the other day and they had 5 M-16's behind the counter and a .50 cal Sniper rifle

ok, heres how it brakes down- to own a fully auto weapon you need a class3 dealer or owner license (a .50 cal semiauto sniper rifle doesnt fall under this)

the importing and manufaturing ban says that you can own certain items from before the last ban such as bayonet mounts, high capacity handgun magazines, certain styles of stocks, and other items. these can be bought w/out a permit, they just cant be manufactured or imported anymore

Yeah....but they still have to vote on it...don't you know how this government even works!?! He can suggest a bill for renewal, but why would he do that? It's already a large enough issue that it doesn't have to be suggested, it's already been introduced into both houses. You can't blame President Bush for this one. He can't just pick up the phone and make it law!! He can't call congress and say ' Vote on it' and then each house immediately calls a vote.

The bill has been issued in both houses already, there is nothing President Bush can do. It's a senate and hosue matter now, and it is already on the calendar for being voted on. If you want to follow the bill here is the latest update:

I dont see what the big deal is... Anyone who wants this type of gun can probably get one regarless of whether or not they are 'legal'. Not to mention, you can kill somebody with 1 bullet, just because something shoots 50 bullets doesnt mean its going to drastically ramp up number of people killed by gunshot wounds.

asac, do you even have the slightest clue how our government functions. Didn't you read that other guy who said bush has nothing to do with this issue. Congress has a very crowded agenda, and therefore it takes a long time for a bill to reach the floor. President Bush has nothing to do with this process, and won't have anything to do with it until the vote has taken place. You needn't worry though, because it is scheduled to go to vote before the expiration, so you and your liberal buddies can continue disarming law abiding citizens, who are the only ones who care about and/or obey gun control laws. Please refrain from trying to make it seem like Bush is trying to put assault rifles back on the streets, because nothing like that is happening at all. You just want to tarnish Bush's image, because that's what is trendy, or you agree with Michael Moore's dumb ass, or you are totally infatuated with John Kerry, or whatever reason you want. I just find it hard to believe to don't actually see how much you look like an idiot in the process.

Do you know that the exuctive branch and the legislative branch are completely different? President Bush doesn't have to 'call' congress in order for them to vote on an issue. If you knew anything, the only check he has on the legislative branch is to veto a congress passed bill! I mean come on, this is basic stuff here. Thinking that he had to 'call' them is the stupidest thing I have ever heard.

as far as i know the only thing the ban concerned was the magazine capacity. all semi auto guns are legal its jus the magazine limit is 10 rounds. i dont really see the point of having such large capacity clips it only takes one bullet to kill something if ur an intellegent human being. and if u just wanna get ur laughs on blowin the shit outta somthin just get more clips simple as that.
