Ask a racer

Soo..... bad news guys.

(Since were talking about racers in le thread)

A racer at PCMR (UT) has entered a medicinally induced coma after crashing face first on a jump (in 3 kings park) and rendering himself unconscious. As of today he is still in a coma.

French fry'ed when he shouldve pizza'd

Why do racers ski in the park at all, and why are so many of them so disrespectful in the park - not following the rules, etiquette etc. and somehow think park skiers are the scummy ones?

Why does anyone ski in the park, because it's fun as fuck. Many racers have no clue that park etiquette and rules even exists purely because the only time they spend in parks is when they are bombing through it carving off the jumps and doing straight airs. I think racers probably think park skiers are "the scummy ones" because they don't spend time around them at all and the only time they interact with them is during altercations. Also, stereotypes probably don't help.

Curious to know what you think the average newschooler's ski ability is? Piss poor, decent, good? Can anyone buy a turn who didn't grow up racing?

Kinda expanding on the park question. Why do racers seem to not give a shit about anyone else on the mountain they just show up and take over where ever they want, whether that be scraping all the powder of a run or destroying lips in the park? Is this a part of the racer mentality as a whole or is there something that leads to this? That being said my home mountain (grouse) is affiliated with/sponsors the local race club with all kinds of privileges (skipping lines, early opening, fucking lodges on the mountain) so that might be part of it.

Not really sure, probably has to do with the fact that racers generally ski faster than everyone else which, at least in my experience, makes it seem like everyone else is skiing in slow motion compared to me. As far as ruining lips in the park, most racers probably don't even realize that they are ruining them. Something that leads to racers feeling like they are at the top of the mountain hierarchy has to do with how the mountain treats them. If you get to skip lines and get early ups on the chair, eventually you will feel that you are better than everyone else because they don't get treated that way.

Word, I'd say the most of the skiers who think like this have been ski racing their entire lives, that mind set is ingrained in their heads from an early age.

Backcountry pow > resort Powder > park > groomers > summer setups > grass skiing > degenerate racers

I also love when the racers where their gs suit through the park always gives me a good laugh because of how ridiculous they look.
