I just asked my eight Dads, and they told me that there was no need for a donor egg. This is because I wasn't born at all. The moment the US legalized gay marriage I materialized in a San Fransisco hospital bed. I am a being of pure homosexuality.

I think it has to do with the financial cost of the sport. Because ski racing is such an expensive sport you get a lot of families with shit loads of money able to send their privileged kids to a ski academy. I think it's especially bad at the high school level because every academy kid thinks they are they next Bode Miller because their parents never stopped enabling them as a kid.

Eventually, all the academy kids graduate and generally do one of three things: 1) Ski for a D1 school. 2) Ski D3/ join their school's club team. 3)Quit all together.

D1 skiing sees a lot of those stereotypical fuck boys because all the other ones either quit or realize they aren't hot shit anymore so they ski D3 and mellow out a little bit

Another reason could be due to the fact that the sheer time you have to commit to the sport to be able to be even a little bit competitive is ridiculous. Because of that, I think most racers think people have no idea what they have to go through, thus giving off an arrogant attitude. It definitely takes a certain type of person to look forward to waking up early and putting a spandex suit on for fun.

It also could be that people generally remember the worst experiences they have with a group of people. And because the fuckboys of racing seem to have 'bad' encounters with the most amount of people it could be that people generalize maybe too much.

Okay I see your point but 2 things: (I'm not saying you feel this way just generally discussing)

At this point all sports are so competitive that dedicating your life to them is the only way to go pro. That's not exclusive to ski racing and the ski racing teams I see at our hill often train less than mogul athletes and the up and coming freestyle athletes. (Again I may not see all their training but talking to race coaches it seems that way, I had a coach tell me they had done their 12 runs and were done for the night.

Second point; possibly, I have met nice race kids but never once have they been over the age of like 10-11 . Which ties into that hot shit mindset you were discussing

Good point, I guess all competitive skiers (freestyle, mogul, racer, etc.) are pretty much in the same boat as far as training goes. Another thing could be due to the fact that unlike the other disciplines (correct me if i'm wrong) racing is the only one where results are based only using a time. Because of this, it makes it much harder to blame anyone but yourself for any mistakes. I also feel like there is no room for creativity in racing like there is in freestyle and moguls which I think leads to racers becoming cynical.

Also, as far as training goes racers are complete pussies, myself included sometimes. To a college racer 12 runs is a shit ton for an everyday training. Growing up I trained after school for three hours six days a week, In college i'm lucky if I get to train twice a week for two hours and when I do train I have usually get the most out of the session after four or five runs cause I get tired. Don't even get me started on our women's team. Because there is a lack of female ski racers at my school the girl's team is very arrogant because they can't get cut and they don't have to worry about being fast in time trials even though they ski at a U14 grade level. Whereas anyone on the guy's team has to worry about being cut and being fast in time trials because we don't suck.

also why don't more of you get into big mtn shredding? it seems like such an obvious migration to make but it doesn't seem like there are as many big mtn pros that came from racing as you might think

Biggest air during a race would be somewhere around 200ft, there is a race at Soldier Mtn. in central Idaho where there is a 'waterfall jump' that just drops away from you when you are going around 55mph. The biggest air in a race i've ever seen in person was at the same mtn. when i was in middle school. I saw some girl go off it and forget to press and go 250+ ft to flat and get life flighted. Biggest air not in a race probably a park jump at Sun Valley idk exactly how big but probably 70ft ish.

Plenty of racers can shred big mtn stuff but by the time you are done with your racing career it's time for the real world and for some reason ex-racers don't enter in big mtn comps. And, it has only been in recent years where local race programs have a big mtn. team. When I was growing up I didn't even know there was big mtn. comps. Not to mention a huge percentage of racers are from the east coast where there is jack shit for big mtn stuff. For the most part, I feel only west coast racers have the ability to ski big mtn cause they grow up around it.

They asked her about Marcel Hirscher and she said

“Its crazy because hes so unathletic but he still manages to win everything”

I couldnt believe this cunt could be so short sighted and judgemental. She basically called on of the most athletic pros in sking who skis at a speed and at level she would not even be able to comprehend. If hirscher was born female he would destroy shiffrin in a ski race tripping on shrooms with a din of 2. Why? Because shiffrin thinks she can judge athleticism by how someone looks?

Too bad shiffrin is just a bimbo. Because if shes dumb enough to say something like that on tv she def isnt an interesting person outside of the slopes.

And for what its worth Hirscher looks incredibly athletic

do other aspects of skiing (backcountry, park, bigmtn, etc) intruige you? To what extent? Whats the general opinion of these other realms of the sport from the racing community?
 
Do racers even go to school? I see them up on my mountain frequently it doesn’t matter what day of the week it is. Today it is Wednesday and they are having a race..

In high school not really junior and senior year, I went ~10 non-consecutive days of school in January and February. But since I ski for a D3 college i'm only allowed to miss school for regionals and nationals.

Why do racers ski in the park at all, and why are so many of them so disrespectful in the park - not following the rules, etiquette etc. and somehow think park skiers are the scummy ones?

A racer at PCMR (UT) has entered a medicinally induced coma after crashing face first on a jump (in 3 kings park) and rendering himself unconscious. As of today he is still in a coma.
