Article 13 boutta destroy ski edits

Well it wont actually work quite like that. The basic principle of the law is to protect people from copyright infringement but the wording is so vague that people can easily misuse the law for personal gain. Luckily there is still time to change the law itself before it comes in place so all is not lost.

But it's game over if youtube and instagram start using copy right filters in EU.

There will be many large site that will have to block the EU, not entirely but its going to be a big deal.

I guess like the fitness youtubers, edits will have to switch over to royalty free trap music.

This is much more than music use, its eliminating Fair Use in the EU.

You should be a little more worried about this than just the ski edits. The whole way the internet is used in Europe could change

Youtube and Instagram already use copyright filters. If you upload something copyrighted it will be taken down quite fast because of the algorithm they already have in place article 13 wont change that in any way.

You better not block us out of ns or then we will have a problem.

Yea tru, youtubes filters do work pretty well tho of instagram i dont know so well. It would suck tho if they filter images from the eu it all depends on how the wording comes out on the final submition of the law. Its scary shit. Hopefully it doesnt obliterate fair use.

so basically IG pages like Downdays would no longer be able to repost a pic or video from any skier, since the filters would take it down.

I don't think that it's going be that way. nobody would have a chance to get pushed in the community (skiing, arts etc.) by big sites and even sponsors would have big problems to promote stuff. there will be some change to article 13

Wouldn't sites with servers outside of the EU not have to worry about any of that? Like wouldn't it be up to the EU to police this? Not like Zucc can be prosecuted for breaking the laws of a nation that facebook has no servers or offices? Like imagine if the US (or any country) banned a singular concept or image from being posted anywhere on the internet cause of terrorism or something. Now what would the US do, ban its citizens from visiting any site that does not heed their demands? I have no idea what I'm talking about and am not familiar with how international copyright law works, but some of this stuff seems pretty hard to enforce unless you're an authoritarian nation such as China, where even then people have relatively easy access to VPN's or proxy's.

People won't be able to make money from videos using other people's music for free? So shocking...

It's just what copyrights are for.

Its not like everything will be copy striked the person who owns the material will still have to claim the uploaded content so ski edits and shit will be mostly fine

That was already a thing? These new laws completely eliminate Fair Use, look it up.

how I understood, they will inform the owner and if he doesn't consent, then it won't be uploaded. since 99% of amateur vids contain licensed music it's going to be interesting

It's down to each individual member state to interpret the article as they see fit. Some EU members might choose to ignore it altogether.

If you monetize a video you can't really claim faire use though

Yes you can, it's how many creators on YouTube generate content, using fair use.

Ok, imagine you're a songwriter, or a composer, you've spent many days/weeks working on a tune and then someone on Youtube uses your song and makes $1000 with their video. Yet you made absolutely ZERO dollar because they claimed it was "faire use". See where the problem is?

Fair use is not something you can throw on the table whenever you don't want to pay for something. It has specific rules, and that's also why copyright free music exists.

Fair use doesnt work like that. U really cant make money with a video with somebodys song on it or at least youtube is trying to reduce that. Article 13 is gonna make all the content with copyrighted material on it impossible to upload to YT even though you didnt make money with it.

We'll see. I think there is a lot of psychose around that whole Article 13.

This will save skiing if it makes it to instagram, edits might get views based on how good the skiing is instead of the trendy editing style.
