I don't think there is an art discussion cult, and I'm interested in all yer tastes (except you.)

Ready set go~

thats a cool painting.

I got into a heated debate yesterday with some hipsters about splatter paint, which I think is nothing more than splattering paint on canvas- like this pollack called "lavender mist." its fucking stupid.

Opening the thread with a black painting huh?

Goya is my favorite of the old masters

I'm a huge fan of modern art, one of my long list of life goals is to own a rothko, though it's in the 'highly-unlikely/next to impossible' column of my goals list.

yeah pollack-esque art drives me crazy. some of it's pretty cool, but so many people attempt to interpret complete bullshit from it that i can't take it seriously.

still, gotta love picasso

it's pollock, not pollack, racist.

and abstract expressionism is different things to different people. To somebody, a Pollock can draw them in for hours, days even, and make them feel whole. for somebody else, it's just paint on a canvas. Don't fault somebody for appreciating it, and vice versa, don't dog on somebody who doesn't 'get' it, as everybody has a different style they appreciate.

"Saturn Devouring His Son" by Spanish artist Francisco Goya.Excellent choice to start an art thread.

One of the 14 Black paintings of Goya

The Black paintings are a group of paintings by Goya from the later years of his life. They portray intense, haunting themes, reflective of both his fear of insanity and by then, his bleak outlook on humanity.

This one from the same group: Two Old Men Eating Soup:

Over here in Amsterdam we have a ton of museums filled with a lot of famous paintings.

Rembrandt's massive Nightwatch for example:

I completely agree, to each their own, its just a weird process maaan. To be honest I don't know the first thing about visual art, I just like high contrast and not splatters :)

i met a really talented local artist at work this summer, at first I was skeptical, but his shit is really original and cool.

he used a stylus to scratch these into random pieces of metal junk he got at the landfill

and these prints he did by scratching the drawing into

plexiglass, covering it in ink and pressing it onto pieces of old topo maps. dont ask me how he comes up with this

banksy, his style (somewhat common) portrays so much in such little art... it's incredible

every piece he does has a separate meaning
