Armada dilemma

I have the opportunity to get some 180 Ar5s mounted with s914s for $400. Im 5'11' about 160lbs. Ill be using them for 50% park 50% all mtn. Keep in mind that 'All mtn' is east coast. Ive heard these skis have delaming and edge problems. If i just hit a couple rails a day are these skis gonna hold up? My other option would be pe's but theyre more expensive (not too much) id rather have a good reason to get the ar5 though. appreciate anybody who can help

if your rail style isn't too bad, then i don't think you'll have any issues.

personally i'd go with the PEs because they have a better track record, unlike last seasons armadas which are known to be pretty shady when it comes to durability (if you were picking these skis up to beat on and not care about them, then they'd be perfect).

it's all really up to you.

ar5s with p14s for $400? dangggggggg that is a good deal :) and yes, I love my armadas. worst comes to worst you have to warrenty them and get new ones?

I dream of winter.

isn't there something about hitting rails and voiding warrantees?

Just use your old skis on days when you're gonna hit rails alot.

don't the pe's break all the time? my friend's broken two pairs in one season and i've heard a lot of other shit like that. so the ar5's must be pretty shitty if they're less durable than the pe's...

I've seen 2 pairs of Armadas blow up last season...i don't know if they changed anything this year but they're not all that they are cracked up to be....

^before making posts like that one, check out the company's website. You'll notice significant changes in Armada's construction, and all of them for the better. Fuck, they even switched factories. Last year's stuff was good, this year's stuff is amazing.

It truly depends on the paticular ski that you have. Ive had my PE's all last season and havent had an any problems with them. took them on tables, rails, cliffs, rocks, and my driveway and they are still holding just find.

You mentioned that they are used? in what condition (were have they been skied, have they been on rails or any damage to the topsheet or base) I havent personally skied on Armadas but i know they changed there cores from P-tex to ABS this year and added a 60 degree sidewall. So if these are last years used armada ar5's we are talking about with used bindings i would look more at $300 for them. if they are this years Ar5's and only skied on a few times with no rails then i could see paying 400 for them. otherwise are the PE's new 05's or used?

theyve been skied on for maybe 8 days, basically new '04 armadas... also remember the $250 bindings im getting with them

you obviously want them pretty bad, so go for it. it's not like pe's are gonna be that much better...the flex is similar and the durability is questionable for both, but there are very few bomb-proof skis these days unless u go with the mad trix or somethin nuts like that. just do it and u'll be happy...bargain it down if u can...also, the sidewalls on the pe's get chipped to hell because of the 90 degree sidewall so that's somethin else u gotta consider. after a good season they'll look beat to shit...but that's just cosmetic so go with ur gut. i'd get the armadas, everyone's got pe's anyways cuz they're cheap
