So people, here's the ho-down on armada....its actually majority funded and initiated by the British capital fund, Sports Vision ...the guys who organise the ski show, and the Brits.

Just thought everyone would like to know that the "core" brand started by the riders actually is a marketing ploy. :)

 
a marketing ploy? because of where they got their capital from? where do you think every single company gets capital from? investors. unless they are rich to begin with. which isn't core either. your comments are pointless.
 
i always thought they were french venture capitalists, not brits.

A lot of companys do stuff themselves, scraping along to get by. Not every company is packed by corporate sponsorship.
 
it is true a lot of companys do scrape by, but most successful companies do take on a partnership or an investor to raise the large amounts of capital necessary to grow a company. however, this doesn't mean a company like armada isn't core.
 
holy shit, who cares who they're backed by? that doesn't determine if they're "core" or not, and in reality, that shouldn't really matter as much as you all make it out to be. sure, there are definitely companies out there that need the help of the freeski world to survive, but sitting and contemplating whether or not a company is core enough so you can decide who to buy from is stupid. buy stuff that works and that you like. being "core" has come to be something of a fashion statement and wearing it on your sleeve trying to be a badass is as bad as the rich racer kids you all hate on so much slapping on twins, baggy clothes, and pretending to be freeskiers. stop worry about what other people think and do what you love doing. if you're worried about whether or not you're "core" enough, if you're wearing the right shit, if the graphics on your skis are cool enough, etc, then you're skiing for the wrong reason.
 
i think everyone here actually missed the point. This isnt from an article. This is from the MD of Sports Vision. They actually CAME UP with the idea: of the first "Rider controlled" company in the industry...they came up with everything. From the team of pro's who "own" Armada, to the shabby "offices" you see in the videos....

Im not just talking about venture capitalists...thats sth totally different. To clarify, this company actually RUNS armada...product development....marketing....atheletes....the WHOLE shebang.
 
they didnt come up with a rider own rider operated idea, for skiing it would be line for snowboarding it would be burton. i cant seem to think you're smart.
 
There is a large difference between vc's (venture capitalists) and holding partners (partners with a share of the company)

a venture capatilist is the same thing as borrowing from a bank, except its a private lender. The lender sees potential for a return PLUS on the investment. They just give money, they dont call shots

a holding partner is an investor that has control over a certian % of the company, appropriate to what they invest.

Armada has vc's, so its no different then getting a bank loan. Armada calls the shots
 
i think this thread would seriously upset the likes of hans smith, chris oc, tyson, levin, jp etc, who all work their asses off all day and all night for not much return i reckon apart from getting the credit for setting up and running Armada. All it takes is a dipstick like the guy who got this thread up and running to down grade the work that these guys do..

Who do you think found the british guys? And how do you think it would survive without them...

Armada, by the ways is an american company trading out of Costa Mesa, Cali.
 
i just googled sportsvision.co.uk and they are not a capital fund company... they are into surfing, skating and skiing.. sounds pretty core to me.. this thread has irritated me
 
sportsvision dont run the 'ski show' or the 'brits' thats soulsports.co.uk... sportsvision run 'natural born riders' competitions and the armada thing...
 
yeah. seriously. im not trying to bash armada or w/e....they are sick for sure. I never said they werent. But as i said they are actually controlled by sport vision... NOT just venture capitalised...

Im surprised theres not more interest in this...just shows how bone most of the members on this site are.
 
or how much we really don't give a fuck. did you know that there are one or two things more important in this world than who owns Armada? who really cares who owns them! the fact is that they make cool stuff, have a great team, do really good R&D, and have helped to progress the sport, so why would we care if some company from the UK funds them?
