Argentina - Skiing day trip from Mendoza?

Traveling with the wife for a week+ in Argentina the last week of August. I am wondering how plausible it is to make a day trip to one of the resorts from the Mendoza area, or if I need to figure on getting there the night before or something different. Also looking for recommendations on where to go- since I'm travelling with the lady i'm not necessarily looking for the most gnar terrain, but more of a decent selection of groomers to cruise down.

Also, any suggestions on must see things to do while there are appreciated. We have 8 full days in the country, right now we are leaning towards splitting time between Buenos Aires and Mendoza, but have not completely ruled out Northern Argentina either (Iguazu or Salta).

Thanks in advance, NS

you might could ski Penitentes if you had a car. I think it's about 2 or 3 hours from Mendoza, but the rental equipment would be pretty low end. You're def too far from Las Lenas for a day trip. Mendoza is a really cool place. Lots to see and great restaurants. You should stay for longer and go ski Las Lenas, when the Marte lift is running it's possibly the best skiing in the world. I'm headed down to Bariloche and then up to Las Lenas and Santiago during September, can't wait. You'll love Argentina, the place rules. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. I think we found a private-ish tour that runs day trips to Penitentes from Mendoza. It should pick us up from our hotel, includes food, gear, lift, etc. Still waiting on final pricing for it- it probably won't be the most dirtbag cheap way to go about it but if it's reasonable i'm game. I'm prepared for low end rentals and suppose i could deal with that for a day- going with the lady so it's going to be more of a cruiser day than hardcore shredding. It would be nice to stay longer and get to las lenas, but that's not really going to be possible this trip. Maybe next time

If this comes together I think we have our Mendoza part figured out - 1 day being winos, 1 day on the slopes, and 1 day to explore town + there's a world cup qualifier that night in town that could be fun. Now gotta look more at what to do in Buenos Aires the other half of the trip
