Are they a pain in the ass?

I recently bought a pair of contour hybrid fat free split skins. I'm wondering if they are a pain in the ass or if they are great because you can fit them on every ski with a waist width over 100mm.

My (admittedly very limited) experience with contour hybrids has amounted this:

I was extremely let down by the quality of the glue. Sure, they don't stick to themselves like Black Diamonds do. And by this I mean you need less than an army to rip them apart when they're stuck glue to glue. But that's because they don't seem to stick to anything particularly well. Ski bases included.

Because the glue sucks, the 'split' design really shows it's weakness. With 4 'edges' on each skin you now have two more weak points for snow creep underneath.

And yes, they're a bit of a pain in the ass to manage given their design.

Again, your mileage may vary but like most of the skin innovations over the last few years they left me largely unimpressed.

Go find out!

In my experience they're a pain in the ass. Not impressed with Contour's glue, and split skins generally are much more of a pain than they're worth, but your milleage may vary!

I've used them and never really had much of an issue... but it does seem like some people have been underwhelmed by the glue.

If used them now for two seasons and I can say that the glue is not that good. I also don't like that you have to put them on so carefully and line up the edges everytime

I saw the name of this thread and immediately thought it was going to be about Pivot heel pieces. I was disapointed

its in the AT and backcountry forum lol...

Also pivot heelpieces arent even that much of an issue if you dont suck ;)

The glue is junk dont know why they still make them this way. the guide skins are awesome. I love the Split skin concept and it does work but as others have said the glue really prevents them from working properly.

They revamped the skins for this season. I have a pair of the pures I’m going to put on my pow skis but need more snow. I’ll report back after testing them out!
