Are there roads in AK?

So, I was looking at Google Maps, fantasizing about my never-going-to-happen AK heli trip, and I noticed there's like NO roads in the southern part of AK.

Pretty much everything near the Britsh Columbia boarder is green, no roads. You just have to fly like everywhere you go or what?

Just really curious.

And also, what are the roads like in AK, North-Canada.

Let's say I want to get from Vancouver to the thriving city of Inuvik in the Northern Teritories, what kind of road are you driving on? I can't imagine it's all asphalt...

I'm from the second most crowded country in the world. 400 people per km2 (opposed to 0.3 persons per km2 in Canada), so I'm quite blown away by the vastness and emptiness of the northern part of North America. I really can't imagine what it's like...

Toss that bad boy into satellite or terrain mode and the reason why there are no roads will quickly become apparent.

no, the road from vancouver to inuvik is paved...just happens to be 3500km long

also the vastness of nature is something that i cherish and value...i'm depressed in cities/suburbs. the calm and serentity in the woods/mountains where you can't see one person, town, or road is indescribable.

pretty much everyone in alaska has a pilots license. definitely the easiest way to get around. that being said, i don't know much about the roads there. but it's not called the last frontier for nothing.
