Are ski edits starting to be noticed more by edit skillz than actuallskiing skillz???

I've recently noticed that edits are starting to be recognized more on the actual edit more than the tricks... I need people to tell me I'm wrong or right.

wrong. i couldnt give a shit if something had sick tricks and no editing. Personally i dont like edits with only good editing and no tricks or even style.

youre 100% wrong. the only notice ive notice was the evan william threads, but other than that no. i wish it was that way, people dont realize how much time and effort is put into a legit edit. i take more pride in my editing then i do in my skiing/

i think its amazing what a good song and good editing will do to make an edit seem like it has good skiing in it.

whether the skiing is good or not, it's painful to watch an edit that's not filmed well.
Of course, it's not fun to watch an edit full of crappy tricks just because it's edited well either.
I'm super glad that people pay more attention to editing because it makes it so much nicer to watch edits. however, it's not taking over the skiing. It really depends on what the edit is focused on

Filming and editing is an art which I'd hope people appreciate. Skiing/Snowboarding is a different art/way of life. Combine them together and you have a great video.

crappy skiing but beautiful editing/filming is less frustrating to watch than a kangaroo flip in the dark filmed on a cell phone.

I'd much rather watch a well-editted video with mediocre tricks than a poorly editted video with above-average tricks.
There are exceptions, of course, truly insane tricks can redeem themselves above poor editting, and truly crappy skiing can't be salvaged by any editting.

the editing and song matters just as much as the skiing, especially nowadays when so many people can do like every trick there is. a good example is i think andreas hatveit in ski porn. he absolutely killed it in every way possible but the song and editing just made it boring and not excited. too many videos recently just feel like theyre checking important tricks off a list and putting them together

Well said.

I have huge respect for those who put great edits together consistently. I have never seen great skiing in a lousy edit. Well thats not true, there are many of these gangsta lyrics with MF this and that and poke a hoe and suck my dick that have no place in a skiing edit. IMHO of course! thats me.

On the other hand I have seen many a great edit with good skiing and they are just as enjoyable if not more so.

I had the recent experience to spend 12 hours on an edit with the objective of using a unique song The Salmon Dance then capturing, cutting, arranging, and editing 300+ clips to fit the lyrics, all the while trying to make sure I captured the fun of event and include all the skiers there with at least a shot, while still trying to match the beat and chorus and ..... WTF! 12 hours later for 4 minutes? https://www.newschoolers.com/web/content/viewvideo/id/266999/

Comparitively:

I threw the Jackie Kling edit together in less than an hour, with little thought, just a late night stab at trying to get it finished before a deadline and it has been more popular than I could have ever imagined. https://www.newschoolers.com/web/content/viewvideo/id/261289/

Why is that?

youve never seen him ski apparently. homie is mad flexible.

and i think sick sick skiing tricks suffer big time when the edit is horrible quality or the filming is bad. well not the tricks themselves but the perception.
