Are rails that bad for my skis?

I just bought a new pair of Armada Arvs, and it ran me a thousand bucks with bindings. I did rails on my old skis (olddd head mad trix) and they seemed to take it just fine, but wondering, just how bad are rails on your edges and stuff. Ive heard some horror stories, but also seen park rats with same skis for 3 years. So is it safe to do rails lots or should i save a couple paychecks and buy some used skis for rails/rocks?

rails really aren't that bad for skis. you'll get worse damage skiing pow when u hit a hidden rock

all i did last season was do rails. and my edges are gone.but now i dont have to worry about catching a edge

it all depends on how you hit them and how often you hit them. earlier somebody said that you'd do more damage hitting a rock - not necessarily. I hit a rock last season and took a gouge outa my base but a bita peetex fixed that. i hit rails all last season and now i have no edge and whenever i hit ice patches my skis start going sideways. so it all depends on how you look at it. would you rather have holes in your skis or would you rather not be able to turn?

i know alot of people including myself have our main skis for all/mtn and jumps and have a pair of rail skis if your worried just use ur heads or uy a cheap pair os skis. Im not saying go out and buy sum t-halls just for rails try to get an older pair on here and your good 2 go

yeah a buddy of mine works at a ski shop and one of the dudes there is selling some scratches from a couple years back. Theyre in good shape and theyre $380 with bindings. Good deal or should i look elsewhere?

If you hit a lot of rails, you will notice it on your skis. For the most part, with few exceptions, you wont notice any major damage due entirely to rails. You will dull your edges, and you will have scratches on your bases, etc etc. You most likely arent going to rip your skis to shreds, especially Armadas.

if you round the edges before you start hitting stuff you'll be fine. most edges get messed up from people landing on rails wrong, or not cleaning them, the rails that is.

when you guys say round the edges, do you just get them rounded underfoot pretty much, or do you do the whole thing and how much of a difference does it make when youre not skiing rails

well u should be fine since from what ive heard from the people who ski arv's the edges are razor sharp and indestructable

1000 bucks for arvs and bindings, damn.

And they are bad for you skis, example(done in chronological order with my ar5s):

First picture is from beginning of last season, and last pic is from about three weeks ago. Before the first pic they were fine for 1 season.

Ouch. Damn. After checking out D-Structure, you canadians get rippedoff on ski shit...

my advice, own a pair of park skis, and a seperate pair of all mtn/bc skis. skis to actually ski on and skis for park.

i have destroyed every pair of skis i have ever own on rails. So no, you dno't need rail skis, thats gay and shows you are rich. ghetto kids rock the same skis every year no matter how crappy they are becasue they are koooool

they dull your edges but you can always get those tuned up. it really depends on what your skiing. i hit all park all year on the east coast and for christmas and spring vacation i go ski canadian pow so for those to weeks i get em tuned

u spent 1000 darrars!!!!! u got pwned rails r terrible for skis but there fun thats why u don't use 1000 darrar skis on rails like 300 dollar skis r good

it depends on the ski but rails are not a good idea for $1000 skis or on skis you want to be able to hold an edge with

If You aren't a real skier you won't hit rails its just part of our sport!!! Also I you Have durable skis It won't be a problem buy NINTHWARDS!!!!!!! Or I have a pair of Line Chronics and they work well also!!!

yea dont worry about it, just have fun and if your skiis get fucked up oh well, its part of skiing and the price you pay for having fun in the park.

that's how im goign to be rollin this season. I got a pair of old dynastar candides i got for free to thrash. They'll be good. they're missing about 2 inches of the edge under the foot... but they'll work.

im just going to use my troubles for everything else.

i think if you spin on rails and land hard on your edges they will fuck up, but just going on rails normally shouldnt do anything

i think they should make like a ski kinda like burtons snowboard design with out an edge in the center for like urban, all our edges are way detuned anyways why we need them

It depends on the ski. K2s and Heads are the most bombproof ski, so those should be fine. I have been hitting rails on my K2 Fujatives for 3 years now, and they're just fine. no cracks, nothing.

I heard Armadas edges break really easily, and I know Dynastars definately break, although they added that new reinforced sidewall thing, so Im not sure if the new ones hold up so well.
