Apple Special Event

I can't believe people think they will be taken seriously when they publicly reveal they enjoy My Little Pony. I also can't believe it's not butter.

I have osx 10.5.8. all I want to do is play oregon trail II, use ms word 2008, and watch porn. this helps me zero.

It's because they want everyone to upgrade, its better for their programing and makes it easier for them to release new updates, etc. Apples has some cool new features but still, OSX is going down the shitter.

Of course it's because they want everyone to upgrade, not really any negative side to that is there? And why is OSX going down the shitter?

The introduction of the "app store" was the first downfall, luckily they let you change your setting so you can still download outside programs but I could see it being like an iphone where you can only get apps from the store.

I'd MUCH rather drop $1300 on a more visually appealing, smoother preforming and higher quality under powered laptop that will last me 5-7 years, then a $500 piece of plastic that will need to be replaced in 3-4, even if it has the new GTFX 45000SLG w/ MegaBoost and 1600.5gb of ram

I'd also like to point out that the MBPr now has Haswell processors, Iris graphics, Thunderbolt 2.0 ports, PCIe flash storage, 1080p camera, 9hrs of battery life, 802.11ac, its thinner, its lighter, comes with Maverick, and is now $200 cheaper.

So before this thread gets filled with people saying they didnt even change anything... nah

So I can't install mavericks on my boot disk... Does that mean I have to boot from the install media and install from there? Or can I boot my linux partition and install somehow from there, I wonder?

When I click the only hard drive installed, it says this disk cannot be used to start up your computer.

Question to the Mac users/haters...

I want to start learning how to do some basic video editing/coding/music editing would a 13" mbpr be a good computer for me? I just want something that is easy to learn on and will hold up for a long time. 1,500 is the absolute most I can afford, but if I could get a computer that will hold up for the next 5-7 for cheaper I'd be down. My other thought was going with a refurbished MBP but I'm not completely sold on a mac...Is the extra money worth it?

Yes! Premiere, final cut, etc. all run really well on my macbook! Had a PC I bought for a similar price, and it couldnt handle premiere. Love my macbook, have yet to experience an issue with it.

Yea right 5-7 years. It doesn't matter if a computer is a Mac or a PC it still will meet the fate of the spilled coffee, falling off the table, getting stolen or lost. The mac is also more expensive and harder to repair. If you computer is underpowered now imagine how shitty it will be in 7 years.

I am currently using a mid 2009 macbook, so its over 4 years old now and running strong as fuck, like nearly out of the box new. I have no doubt 2+ years and it'll be fine. A windows laptop is usually falling part after 2-3, and dont say its not true because Its happened to me and at least 40 people I know

I doubt someone who wants a computer thats going to last them 5-7 years cares about it being overpowered by the time it breaks. I have friends who still use their MacBooks from 2007 and edit video on them too, its amazing what a little patients does.

I've always update computers, mostly because new tech came out that made my hobby/job easier. I average about 2 years on a MBP and i tend to upgrade but now, im about to sell my 17" and downgrade since I dont use a laptop for much anymore except personal use. Unless I get some job where I need to edit on the road alot or something, I doubt ill upgrade my computer for awhile, until im rich enough to just do it for fun haha.

same here, im running an og unibody 15inch mbp. thing still kills it, and i have the ability to put more ram in and replace my superdrive with another hd enclosure, probably put an SSD for all my applications and os to boot from

I wouldnt necessarily say that...

You could spend $1500 on a laptop with better specs, but its still a plastic/hybrid material bulky windows computer.

The only "sleek", for lack of a better word, computers that have windows are ultra books and the cheapest ones have awful stats and cost like $800 and the good ones are pushing $1200-1500 and at that point, id much rather have a MBPr.

I will stick by apple laptops til the day I die, I build a windows computer for editing (recently hackintoshed) and was super stoked on saving $3k on an editing computer, but when it comes to personal preference with everything else, apple beats windows. The mbp is so well built and will literally last you 10 years if you take care of it. Not to mention OSX overall is better than win7, I email alot and being able to use mac mail again is fucking awesome and the finder/browser on OSX is so much better to use than on windows.

If i had to use windows I would, I did for the last year, but I still prefer OSX and I've never been impressed by a single windows laptop.

seriously, if money wasn't an issue, I would buy a mac laptop. but then torch OS X the second I got it and install Ubuntu + Win 7. That would be a worthwhile computer. except it would still cost far more than I can justify spending on a laptop.

It's my preference, as an OS I prefer it. Does that mean that its a fact that its "better"? No way, I know the facts about windows vs osx and they don't really effect me at all, its like pixel peeping footage from different cameras, different strokes for different folks.

Anyway, I'm selling my 17" laptop because I don't edit with it anymore and getting a 13" MBPr and I'm completely fine spending $1500 on that.

This.... all day. I'm just finally trying to upgrade right now but i haven't had a single major problem. I know no one who bought a windows laptop at the same time as me that still has it unless they are a complete nerd an bought a super expensive gaming one comparable to mine in price (obviously with "moar memory, speed, joysticks, fancy lights, and still probably a shitty OS they won't stop bitching about)

How so? Lion is possibly one of the most garbage OS I've used. I'm also running FCP7, so the idea of upgrading to an OS that only lets me use some shitty FCPX/Adobe software doesn't sit well with me.

Meh. The new products aren't much of an upgrade over what existed previously, typical Apple. I bought a refurb 13" 2.9GHz today instead. 8GB RAM and 250GB SSD ordered separately. Just need to clear some space in my schedule next week for setting it all up.

the alligator eats the larger value, idiot. Lion is on the bottom of that list ;)
